okay i haven't tried them in a long long time as I find them quite intimidating but I am sick of having to plan everything around my period because I don't know how to use tampons. So how do you put them in? how far? do they take a lot of getting used to? thanks:)

Lynsey tampons are really easy once you get the hang of it

There are instructions in the box which should help you out a lot. Personally I think you should try Tampax Pearl at least the first few times (it's a lot easier to get in)

I started using them in 6th/7th grade, so it's gotta be pretty easy :D

I prefer to stand facing the toilet, one leg on the (closed) toilet seat, and you take the tampon out of it's little package and then put it (somewhat slowly at first, anyway) and aim at your lower back (it should guide itself a little) Then once your fingers are touching your vagina you push the tampon in, there's a little kinda.. stick in the back of the tampon applicator that you push to push the tampon in. Then you pull the applicator out and you're set. If you can feel the tampon you can either choose to pull it out and try again, which hurts pretty bad because the tampon's still dry and hasn't soaked any blood, or you can try and walk around a little and hope it settles in, which usually works for me. When you're ready to take it out (you should either feel it leak a little but it'll get absorbed by the braid or by your hair) then you're ready to take it out. Either reverse the steps for putting it in, or some women like to sit on the toilet with their legs apart, and pull it out that way. I've done it both ways, I like both. When you're putting it in and taking it out be sure to breathe and relax yourself a lot, or you'll be tense and it'll be harder to get in. If you find it hard to relax you can spray something good-smelling or light a candle (i've done it :D)

Wow.. maybe that's why all the girls came to me with their tampon questions

    Hope you got it :D

    hey lynsey,

i think that's a great question because i know so many girls who still are nervous about tampons and are stuck having to wear pads for 4 days a month. as soon as you wear one properly once, you'll be smooth sailing from then on. it's just figuring out how to get one in the first time that's the problem. who wants to walk around with a wad of cotton stuck in them??

i agree with loveflower; all you have to do is try, and don't give up or get freaked out when it doesn't seem to be working. most likely, you're just tensing up so that it doesn't go in all the way. once you get the hang of it, it'll be a 10 second job in the loo. when i finally got the nerve to give tampons a try, i totally couldn't get them in and was convinced that they were too big or something, or that something was wrong with me. finally i got annoyed with myself and just gave it one last go, and it just went in.

try standing up with your legs apart a little, or with one leg up on the toilet seat, and gently push the tip of the tampon in and up a little bit, like towards the small of your back. it WILL go in if you relax and try; you won't hurt yourself. sometimes it feels a little like a pinch, or tight, right at the opening, because it's dry. as soon as you get past that, it should go in easily. i think you should definitely try a slim brand, with an applicator. preferably a plastic applicator at first, because it's a lot smoother than those cardboard things.

once you've pushed it in and your fingers are pretty much touching your body, just take a finger and gently push the applicator part in, to get the tampon pushed up a little higher into your body, then pull out the applicator. by then you won't really feel the tampon inside of you at all. walk around a bit, and get used to the feeling, and that's that. after a few hours, you'll usually just know, sit down and gently pull on the string to get it out, and flush!

    good luck hon!
    :)

    peace,
    sophia

I've been using tampons for acouple years..and i still don't like them. But i prefer them over pads anyday! It took me like three years to finally try tampons. They scared me. and i wasn't too keen on sticking something up there.

I had alot of trouble when I first started getting periods with tampons. Definatly at first use the kind with the plastic applicator. They're a little more expensive, but alot easier to get in before you graduate the biodegradable cardboard applicators. If you're really nervous about it, do it in the shower. It helps you relax your muscles because the more relaxed you are, the easier it will be.

lol, when I first started there weren't plastic applicators. My mom just handed me the box and the instructions, that was it.

I never liked tampons. They always seemed uncomfortable. When I actually got my period back again this last time (14 months after having my youngest daughter), I got a Diva Cup and I definately prefer it over anything else. And much better for the environment. :)

hmm... i never had a problem with tampons myself.... there was a lot of good advice in here, but i want to say that if you can feel it after you put it in, it's probably not in far enough, so push it up farther... there's no way it's going to get lost in there, even if the string comes off (unlikely) you can always stick your fingers in there and fish it out... hehe anyway, i hope it goes easily for you... :)
