    Hey people :D

As some of you know, me and my boyfriend have found a place to live in Amsterdam! For me, that means I have to move from the eastside of the country to the westside. The part of town we're going to live is somewhat 'shady'.. I've never lived in a city this big so I'm anxious about the whole move as well.

For example.. I'm going from 1 lock on my door to 5 locks (1 lock locks from botch sides.. and then two pairs of locks which only lock from the inside or the outside). I'm white and fairly highly educated.. most of the people living there are non-whites probably more in the low-wage income. This all is totally fine with me (my bf is non-white as well) but for me that means that I belong to the minority for the first time of my life.. it makes me feel kinda intimidated every now and then.

I'm going to look for a job there, which will probably be in youthcare and hopefully more specific in the care for homeless youth (yes, that exists in the Netherlands). So that means that I'm not only moving to a 'tougher' city, I'm also going to work with the underdogs of that city.. argh!

    Scary eh? ;)

But a challenge at the same time. Depending on my mood I'm going back and forth between "Oh no! I feel so little and scared.. I wanna cry.. protect me!" and "hell yeah.. bring it on!".. hehe

Anyways.. I'm planning on posting my new Amsterdam experiences here every now and then.. if you're interested, that is ;)

good luck, hon.... i've discovered that some of the coolest people in a'dam (once you break that hardened outer shell that they have towards many light skinned folk) are the 'minorities'..... these are the people with some of the best stories to tell... my "bf" in A'dam (back in Cali now) is from Kabul.... and boy was he sweet!

anyways, good luck and take care of yourself!!
