Hi there. Does anyone still use Norton anti virus 2003, when the subscription is up in December I just want to renew it, how much does it cost just to renew it? I don't want to upgrade. I am using a windows xp computer with xpsp2 pack installed, and so far nothing has happened as far as loosing my files. It is a great program, plus I have addaware installed as well. If anyone has info email me at: groovy41@juno.com. Thank you.
Sorry, I'm too lazy to e-mail you. =P I'll just post instead. If I am correct, renewing subscription provides access to only two things: (1) the latest version of Norton Anti-Virus (which by now is likely to be NAV 2005), and (2) the latest virus definition file (DATs as they are usually called). I am not sure whether or not you HAVE to use the latest version of NAV in order to use the latest DATs, but I think you can just stay down-graded and keep your DATs up to date, even with a subscription (give Norton a call and ask!). If you want a good FREE anti-virus program, check out AVG Anti-Virus. =) No subscriptions or anything.
paying for antivirus isn't worth it, AVG http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ it's free forever. get that, and run a firewall like zonealarm, also free http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp;jsessionid=CwEP1p0lK5U4cLynz2Pj1sET2WDkB2Mmezh2dpISOeMK6aV6cv2R!1506478802!-1062696905!7551!7552!NONE and switch your browser to firefox, free http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
I uninstalled my Norton despite having 6 months left free of updates, etc. Some people will say Norton is the best thing ever and some, like me have many issues with it. I will never go back to Norton again, instead I use a combination of Firefox, AVG, Zone Alarm, Ad-Aware & Spybot. All free and have had no problems unlike Norton.
It really isn't necessary for you to pay for the program or the updates. If you would like it for free all you have to do is PM me. I personally wouldn't recommend using Norton products because they have a tendacy to make your computer run slow. They tend to use a lot of system resources. I personally prefer NOD32. I believe it uses the least amount of resources of any of the anti-virus programs. It also hasn't missed a single virus in the wild for several years in a row. If you want you could also try a free anti-virus program. AVG is considered the best free anti-virus program by many. It's just as good as many commercial programs. As for a free firewall..I would suggest Sygate Free. I've used it for some time now and I'm pretty content with it. It's easy to use and get adjusted to as well.
