er, well, in all honesty I do find it very irritating when something is so poorly written that you have to read it three times to understand what they're saying or asking. And I have gotten bitched out by some people for commenting on it (I've said stuff like "you'll get more responses if you make your question easier to read or more legible")

But there is a point of going too far. Just saying, it does make sense to a point to be grumbly about grammar and spelling.

The problem, for anyone intelligent enough to understand it, here (I know, that's one hell of a long shot) is that the spelling-thing is indicative of APATHY. It may not be on a par with the wrong people flying airplanes and crashing them -- but the attitude is the same. "Oh, why bother doing anything the right way? I'm too lazy and stupid to put in the effort to do something right."

It's a pet peeve of mine, so I point it out when I see it here.

It's funny, go to any other kind of discussion board, like for guns, skydiving, knives, anything, and the people there at least write like they've gone past fourth grade. But not here. And when it's pointed out, rather than say, "Yeah," you fuckin' losers say, "Oh, gimme a break, grammar and spelling aren't worth shit." And what you fail to see is that grammar and spelling are foundations for all other intelligence that follows, and without them that intelligence does not follow.

It doesn't keep me up at night, folks. It's more of a "shake my head in dismay" thing.

Actually, you are completely right. Well, except you didn't mention that proper names generally begin with a capital letter.

And now that I mention it, you didn't capitalize any of your sentences.


Now, if people started deliberately creating horrible spelling and grammar errors in their posts "just to annoy" me, it wouldn't have that effect, because it would be obvious that it was deliberate. I'd notice people who usually write coherently suddenly being quite "herbuhluva-ish" and that would tip me off. Remember, what really annoys me is when people actually don't know this stuff when they should. Proof of that is that I occasionally "slum it" by typing in the vernacular. Some people try to "catch" me on that, when it's not the same as if I actually didn't know I wasn't using standard English. I know I'm no Mark Twain, but clearly, when he wrote in the vernacular he was doing it for a particular effect, and so do I. Ain't nothin' wrong with that. (Especially when you know how to "correctly" write in and punctuate the vernacular.)

You automatically assume that we "don't know" proper grammar or spelling. Have you ever considered that maybe we just "don't care" because these are not graded essays? We have better things to do with our lives than make sure that every word is spelled right and in proper usage. Just because you are so damn anal about it doesn't mean everyone here is. Maybe you should get a hobby instead of spending all your time correcting everyone else. It's annoying and obnoxious and when you basically put everyone down for "not caring," you piss people off.
