That movie is like crack. I gotta watch it again and again and again. But I do have one question... Why is that one scene shot in black and white? Also, I've noticed that while Uma is in the airport, she passes an ad for Red Apple cigarettes. Ads for Red Apple Cigarettes also appear in Pulp Fiction, another one of Taratino's films. I wonder, what significance do these ads hold?
Haha dude I'm totally from Ajax,Ontario too. But anyways I agree Kill Bill is like crack. I think it was shot in black and white to avoid getting an NC-17 rating. Because shooting that scene in colour of beating a pregnant lady at her wedding, and then putting a bullet in her head would have definetly earned and NC-17 rating. Thats also why Q chose to have Anime in one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie. I think cigarette adds are sick. Worse than a pregnant wife beating.
your opinion doesnt matter because its cold hard facts. cold hard facts. grass is green mother fucker, grass is green.
actually, the anime scene was because he was threatened with an NC17 rating, but my sister told me she saw an interview with Q where he admitted the Showdown in the House of Blue Leaves was shot partially in black and white because they ran out of fake blood and had to use water, and it would look at least somewhat real if shot in black and white. if you look closely at that part, it actually does look kinda clear like it really may be water, so thats what i chose to believe to calm my own questioning mind.....it's plausible, considering the amount of blood they had to use for the movie, and considering how long a scene that is and how expertly choreographed, i'm sure it took a good number of takes, and after a while the supply of red liquid may get pretty depleted. i know the fake blood in old westerns was often not red at all, because it doesnt have to be for black and white. so who knows?
red apple cigarettes because filmmakers cant always use brand names, so they make up their own. kevin smith made up red nail cigarettes for his movies, watch closely, esp. in dogma
Listen to the commentary on Tarantino's other films. The scene was shot in black and white because it was deemed "too bloody" to show in color in the States. It is in color in the Japanese version. Red Apple Cigarettes are a (made-up) brand that Tarantino just likes to put in his films because he wants to. Also it kind of ties his movies together.
I agree that the 2nd one is the better of the two. When i first saw the first one i didnt like now i love it.
I am the opposite. At first I was not quite fond of the second one. I must now agree that it is a bit better than the first but I love them both. I also love Quentin's use of puns and how he incorperates pieces of one film into another.
Absolutely loved them both! Too hard to pick one over the other. Uma has some damn ugly feet though *wiggles her big toe thinkin' about it*
Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2 make up the same movie, Its broken into volumes because it was to long to make one big movie. It is actually just one big movie.
Also, I noticed that you don't even find out her name until part 2. Every time her name is mentioned, they bleep it out. If you pause the movie when they show her ticket to Tokyo, her name is on the ticket. You'll see it if you look closely. And one more thing... the soundtrack kicks major ass. I love it! Especially the old-japanese-action-film music. And the music in the scene where the Yakuzas are walking down the hall in the club. It fits very nicely.
Thats what makes Q one of the best, he blends music and cinematography beautifully, in all of his movies. Everytime I hear "little green bag" by steelers wheel it brings me back to the scene in Resevoir Dogs where Mike Madsen is dancing around with a blade in his hand in front of that pig drenched in gasoline.
The score in Kill Bill vol. 1 was done by the Wu-tang's RZA, and in Kill bill 2 it was RZA and Robert Rodriguez (director of desperado, from dusk till done). Quentin always has an ear for good music.
