You should really check out the Great Blue Heron Festival in July... Its near Erie. Its a really great festival. Look it up on the internet and you'll get more info... I really really recommend you go if you're close to Erie.

Check out the Philly Folk fest in schwenksville PA. Its not western PA, but its not hard to get to. Go to Folkfest.org for more information, they even have a "find a ride link" so you can hitch a ride with someone else if your not able to get there on your own..... This will be year # 3 for me.

    AIN'T
    IT
    THE
    TRUTH!!!!!

But we'll never have a free festival with good music ever again, because of the 3 C's.

Oh, What Are The 3 C's you ask?

    Capitalism
    Conformism
    Control

The 3 things that keep us from having our own 2nd Generation Woodstock. Our own 3 day free festival where sex, drugs, and booze aren't a problem, Everybody loves each other, and we get to hear some great music. But that'll probably never happen, because of today's fears and loathings in society.

Okemah, Oklahoma...Woody Guthrie *Free* Folks Fest, July. three days long, great people.
Dreamtime, Colorado's "Burning man regional" $20.
Your local fest with local bands: cheap.
Remember, Woodstock was NOT a free show until the fences came down.
Gotta pay the bands, techs, rent, light/sound folks and get the portapotties.
freedom isn't free, as a biker bud of mine loves to say.
Its up to us to redefine festivals out from PepsiStock and Lollapalooza.
That means pulling out our personal wallets to get things rolling, working long hard hours for no pay and doing it because you love it.
But the day comes when the rent has to be paid. And a ticket price under $50 is a STEAL.
    rules are needed.
If you have say, 30 vedors who PAID to be at the show and have a vending permit, the renegade vendors, of whatever, take money away from those who put their faith into the event and risked their money to get to the show.
Why should the food vendors pay for spots (and that is one way fests make the money for guarantees) if some brother is swinging cold burritos in the main stage area?
Guess what STS9 will be paid for Wakarusa?

one thing you might want to check out, if you live in north america or at least the u.s. and i think parts of canada is www.jambase.com

there's a bunch of local festivals and other things comming up out here in northern califoria like music in the mountains arround the first of july
for anyone out this way rather then back east, sam gorsky tends to mention upcomming events on her red heavin show on monday nights from ten until midnight on kvmr as well as play recordings made at them. that's where i heard about jambase.
there are several things this weekend. i believe string cheese is playing somewher in oregon and of course there's lots of live venues in places like chico and the grass valley/nevada city area as well as the san francisco bay.
there's also a music in the mountains dot org or dot com. i don't know how it's spelled. oh i just remembered. i should start a seperate thread for this but there's hsmusic.net for the high sierra music festival

www.nlqp.com I hope this is the link....this place looks GREAT!! I know this is a place I will visit at least once.. then, yes there is the Great Blue Heron, which I have not gone too, but hear it is a good time,...Then I found another place, Acme PA, south of Pitts, Church of Music, or something like that...guess Dave Nelson Band is playing there this summer along with several other good shows that I can't think of now....keep me updated of things in the area, I am always lookin' for live music/camping venues
