now do you think that a cupboard was originally a board to put cups on.. and then some1 thought "hey i can put little doors on that"... and then some1 else thought " hey you know, you dont have to just put cups in there".. and the modern cupboard was born. incidently... does any1 have a cupboard they want to sell stardust.
i think cup boards... were invented originally as cup shaped pieces of board... to hide drunken little dandies in.. when they are gigglie and sleepy and have been drawn alll over by people
i reckon it's a mix up and that originally when all objects were alive, the cups got bored and played musical statues. unfortunately, the tides turned and suddenly objects were no longer alive, and the cups stayed in the same position....on a shelf, with doors....who knows, not i said the spider to the fly(or the Spyder to the Fly)
Or maybe there once was a race called the Cupbo's and they made what we now consider Cupboards but they called them ards. And that Cupbo ards were the best ards around. And like Greek Urns are the most famous type of urn, Cupboards were they favourite then.....
Or perhaps it is simply a word for a wooden box with doors, and any implied etymology is simply coincidental.
Or cupboard may be an english corruption of some foreign word meaning "shelves behind doors," or some such thing.
