So control orders can now be imposed on "suspected terrorists"

    What is a suspected terrorist?..

The sunset clause has been quashed... yet a review after a certain amount of time has been imposed.

    What are your thoughts?

My thought is that since you're questioning this bill, I suspect you might be a terrorist.

But seriously, I'd like to know what is required for one to suspect one of being a terrorist. I mean, anyone can make an accusation regarding this. How does one judge whether a person is potentially a terrorist or not?

I half heard something about it actualy having more time for the actual intricities to be debated than the original bill itself ?.

I think this bill is terrible. It removes rights under law that have been established here for centuries.

You can now be effectively placed in house arrest and never even be told what the evidence against you consists of. There is no right to trial, and no time limit. It seems to contravene basic human rights.
The presumption of innocence until proven guilty has also been thrown out of the window.

Ok - so at present it is only likely to be used against terror suspects, but times change, goverments change. This bill sets a very dangerous precedent. It could concievably be used in the future by a govt, wishing for example to lock away political opponents, or anyoine they find undesirable. It's another nail in the coffin of a so called 'free' country.

It'll still have to go back to the Lords again, so all's not completely lost. It is a worrying Bill though, and a really dangerous potential development in a supposedly 'free' society....

    hi just spotted this and
    guess what........

    read on....

    the socialist paper report
    7 to 13 april ....

    mick griffiths one of our
    socialists party general election
    candidats, for wakefield
was one of six poeple protesting
    at the attacks on pensions,during
    the queens visit to wakefield
    on maundy thursday...
    whilst they were shouting
    {decent pensions for all, no charity}
the police surrounded them and ripped up thier
banners and then demanded their details
then the police issued our members with
    stop and search orders....

then arrested our members {who were on a peaceful
protest ) they were detained until the queen
    left the city.
they were locked up for 6 hours after the queen had
    left ,(imperial shits.}
they were released and charged UNDER SECTION 5
    OF THE PUBLIC ORDER ACT.....
for causing distress to the public...mmmm

they had their finger prints and DNA took and
    photos......
and charged 80 pounds fixed penilty...fine.....

our socialists members will not be letting the
police get away with this one,
not after the may day court case
after all the protesters were inpounded
those few years ago and this court case has just finished.

the public who saw this happen to the above
members been sending complaints about the actions of the
    police .......

this is what the terrorist bill is doing
its creating a mythe about protesters
that terror comes from being outspoken
about this capitalists system ie iraq.......twin towers.......actions of others....
so the freedom of speech is being
    taken away...for all humans

and what the USA and UK
    say is terror,well
look at thier history of terror all other cultures..etc
how is uses fear over its people
the reality is that ,the dolar and the pound
are the terrorists....spreading around the globe
    working workers to the grave
    dictating a reality of lies,
and wars that are for profit
    and capitalism as it stands

so terror is the force of capitalism
and used against those who unfortunalty
    need to fight back....

so peace will never come from war.
only more fear more profit more divide....

thats what this terror act has created more
    misunderstandings more worry about
    what a terrorist is
people will always fight back with what ever means
they feel needed to show the world
what their point is or opinion......is.

    anyway lovenpeace
    from saff

    be whole

This is a disgusting and immoral law, it means that people can be detained without trial which is completely outrageous and contravenes human rights.

Black bill blake - right on man, i totally agree!

Hmmm...this bill sucks. It's put me off labour quite a bit actually (the Iraq disaster did but for me this another nail in the coffin). Think I might have to vote them out when I'm able to (I've recently applied for voting status). It may be four years before I can vote but better late than never, I just hope I'm not too late.

    http://www.swp.org.uk/

I suppose it was the above one you meant .. The only thing that i could actualy agree with is 'drop the debt'.. and the Rover closure because i am trying to understand why the goverment are getting grief ? and how could they justify giving 1 billion to keep it afloat anyway ? (now the chinese are gone) .. I am not into the Anti war stuff

Again thanks... My learning curve begins :)

    .......*cough*
