I was very suspicious when I heard that Tears For Fears were reforming... here was a band that had a big influence on my teenage years... right from listening to Suffer The Children and finding something in there that I identified with... if nothing more than unspecified teenage angst... I remember back in 85 getting into a big heated discussion with a mate who was a big Dire Straits fan... he thought that Brothers In Arms was the best albm of the time whilst I thought that Songs From The Big Chair was better... then he got all moralistic on my arse because Tears For Fears didn't do Live Aid... big argument... Anyways... so the last time I listened to a new Tears For Fears lp was when they released The Seeds of Love and had gone all sixties... and a little bit soul too... thank them for Oleta Adams... So they have a new lp out... Everybody Loves A Happy Ending... is it any good?... Well... yes... I like it... I like it so much that I've been playing it pretty constantly since I got it yesterday... what is it like?... well, Roland Orzabal has said that he thinks it is the album that really should have followed The Seeds of Love... very sixties influenced... but with very much Tears For Fears production values... quite epic in places... but filled with good quality songs... and the obvious bonus of a healthy dose of nostalgia for a survivor of the 80s style wars such as I... Is it me, or does it seems that the 80s is coming back into vogue?... a new Tears For Fears lp... a new Duran Duran lp (which I still have not heard)... a new Morrissey lp... a new New Order lp... apparantly, Billy Idol has a new lp coming out soon... Weird eh?... Must be the Live Aid factor... Fly...
I hope he can still do the sneer... Billy Idol without the sneer would just be a tragedy... and the spikey hair... must have the spikey hair... hey, let's rock... Fly...
