I think Saving Private Ryan is the best war movie. It was also really sad. What is your favorite war movie?
In alot of ways it's an anti-war movie, but i think everyone here should watch "The Beast". Its about a lost soviet tank in afganistan, one of my all time favorites
Joint first place: MASH and Buffalo soldiers I'm not a huge fan of war movies. At least not in the traditional sense.
All Quiet On The Western Front. It's a futile attempt to show humankind just how pointless war is by showing how lives were wasted in the thousands in the mud trenches of WW1. Along those lines, the same message was carried by the new(ish) French film called A Long Engagement. I also liked A Bridge Too Far, an account of the Allied airborne assault through Holland in a bid to enter Germany thereby ending WWII. Again the film shows the senseless loss of lives, rather than glorifying the short-lived bravado. But the common factor that strikes me with all war-related movies: Isn't it a pity that although we are very creative in making films, we're a thousandfold more inventive when it comes to taking each other's lives?
So many, I can't esteem one higher than another so here's my list Catch 22 Patton Platoon (the whole oliver stone trio in truth is pretty good) Apocalypse now Bridge on the river Kwai The worst of all time was Macarthur, watched it the same week as patton, it hurt
Full Metal Jacket (Favorite Movie of all time, btw) Saving Private Ryan (of course, come on, best first fifteen minutes of any movie) Enemy at the Gates (Based on a true story, and it was actually really well done) Memphis Belle (Also a great "based on a true story" film)
Oh yeah We Were Soldiers was a good one... I also really liked Tears of the Sun. I *heart* Bruce Willis
There are so many I like, The Beast was good, and All Quiet on the Western Front, Enemy at the Gates, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket...
