I have always had trouble relaxing, but I have finally found a technique that works. I think it might be yoga, but I'm not sure. I flex individual muscles for around 7 seconds, and then relax them. Does this sound like yoga? Please reply.
well, anything can be a yoga, really. as long as you´re doing it with pure intentions and it´s something that you regularly do, then....sure!
I think I've seen this mentioned in some Yoga books, but I wouldn't say that it is a part of Yoga by itself. We actually do it in my martial arts class. Take a deep inhale through the nose or throat while tensing up the muscles you want to work on. Exhale through the mouth and relax them. Inhale and tense up again, then exhale while maintaining the tention, and inhale again tensing even more. Then exhale completely. This can be done on the entire body or on individual muscles, as you said. And 7 seconds sounds about right.
