Yet again, a missed point. I included that bit about spitting at nam's soldiers to indicate what it was I was trying to tell. You fight for peace but forget about those who have withstood and endured a mental breakdown with a rifle in your hand. It's a scary moment, a moment of tale. A moment to destory but a moment to save within each other. Besides Turtlefriend, you are much to pretty to be contradicting me And all I'm trying to say is that if you don't support the troops, you are an ignorant shit. Whether you do consider yourself a "hippy" or not.
I am proud to be an American, and I see nothing wrong with that. However, putting it on a sticker isn't the way to go.
No, YOU missed MY point. I never said that I would spit on our troops, and I certainly do respect them and honor their sacrifice. What I don't honor are people who put "Support Our Troops" stickers on their cars simply to portray themselves as 'patriotic Americans.' As long as these people support more war and turmoil in the Middle East, they'll never be supporting the troops, anyway.
I support the troops in that I respect the fact that it's their decision even if I don't agree with it. As I don't like being ragged on for being a hippy, I won't rag on them for going to war. All I'm saying is that if you assume all hippies are going to harass soldiers, you are an ignorant shit. But you, Jack, are missing the point of my thread. My point was mocking cheesy trends, like livestrong bracelets and troops ribbons. Just because I mock livestrong bracelets doesn't mean I don't support cancer reaserch, but because I think the whole trend is cliche.
Okay, point understood. I misunderstood you all I 'spose. You see, I take it to my heart very strongly that the troops need supporting. Of course this war is bullshit. I just figured you all were downsizing the support your troops. I really do think those ribbons and what not are full of shit but I can't take people who say that troops are bad. Because there is always going to be war, and the first time it hits home and it's a matter of life and death, I'll be the first to enlist. I just don't think 9/11 was all that bad. We all can expect losses but it's a matter of how great those losses really are. Also I might add, I was incredibly drunk last night so my view was obscured. I feel a lot better that you all do support troups. Because if you didn't, the hippy kingdom to me would've been destroyed.
I had to laugh at the Vegan/Veggie one. Who cares what you eat!!! Just like the rainbow stickers. I don't need to know who you are sleeping with!!!!!!!
Hey, just like the 60's bumper stickers in response to the Okies' "America—Love It or Leave It": "America—Change It or Lose It"! We also had buttons that said "Support Peace or I'll Kill You."
I clicked on it thinking they would be a little more clever. Can we think of funnier ones? I didn't think these were all that funny or ironic, as they should be, really. Like "I have this on my car, because I am incapable of thinking for myself, and I jump on Right Wing Bandwagons." I HATE These things, the regular ones. I was behind a womyn the other day, who had one of these on her car (the "Supprt Our Troops" I think) and she was going 10 miles an hour UNDER the speed limit. I tapped my horn at her and she SLOWED DOWN! I couldn't get away from her, and guess what, after a mile of so of this stupid driving tecnique, she turned into the Walmart!!!! ROTFLMAO I think if you REALLY "support our troops" you would be trying to BRING THEM HOME.
Lights, dude, some of us are OLD hippies with presbyopia. I can't SEE that ribbon. (Too lazy to get glasses.)
I might have mentioned this before, but www.protest-records.com has a ton of good ones and they are all free. Other cool stuff to, like stencils and free music. I use it to make my own propaganda and distribute. Fight the good fight
The ribbon thing is so interesting. There are many various types., with diferent messages and color schemes, they cover the full political spectrum. It could be a study. These are the ones I've seen in New Jersey. The most pacificist is the blue ribbon, meaning bring our troops home now. The next level is the yellow color, the messages say God bless America, or support the troops. The next level up is the stars and stripes theme. It could contain the same message as the yellow, or additionaly it could say freedom isn't free. I've seen only a few camoflage colors. one had a message about fight for fredom or along those lines. The camo seemed to be old style not the desert storm type. There is also an all black for POW MIA. Individuals are able to express a wide range of feeling with color/message combo's
When I was in America I hated seeing them stickers.... Like I can understand parents feeling proud of their kid if he goes and fights in Iraq, but being proud of what they are doing no. If I lived their I would definitely get one of them stickers....
