I'm having problems on the downloading front... How do I configure WinMX to work correctly? I don't seem to be getting any incoming connections, also on bittorrent downloads I cant get past the Yellow status which also means no incoming connections. I never used to have any problems when I was on Cable.. but I recently moved to Bt Broadband and use a asdl router if thats any help.. Other specs.. pentium III.. windows XP Does anyone have any advice? Much appreciated
Are you only having problems with WinMX and bittorrent, or can you not download anything? Which bittorrent client are you using? I'm not familiar with WinMX. I've never used it, so I can't really give you any advice about it.
If you're using adsl, then it's likely your router. I had the same problems.. You should be able to access it's control panel somehow, read you manuals and such, they should have an ip to go to, and you can open whatever ports and such you need.
Yes.. I think I'll try that then.. Where oh were would the control panel be..? other questions.. yes to router.. and firewall.. not sure.. how can I tell?
You need to find the IP address of your router, then you just enter it in a browser.. If you don't have any instructions for that, you could probably find out online, it's usually the same for all of a certain type of router. I don't really know much about firewalls..
if you could tell us the brand and model and such of the router, one of us might just happen to know the ip for those 192.168.1.1 is typical for linksys
I got it sorted thanks guys WinMx is working lovely... How ever Bittorrent is still yellow but I'm getting full speeds Many thanks x
my bittorrents are always yellow [client: Azerous] but as long as they download, i don't really care. not broke enough for me to take the time to fix.
Configure your port settings for your BT client. If the display is still yellow that means you're not getting any credit for your uploads, so much faster if you just spend a minute or two to set up some port forwarding. I average 100-140Kb/s on an ADSL line.
Depends on the client that you're using. Personally I recommend ABC torrent, nice GUI and easy to configure. Set up the ports in the settings menu and then set up your router to forward everything that comes through that range of ports to your PC.
azerous has a configuration wizard thing, it defaults to port 6881 i think. you can have it test whatever port you set it to. just go to your router, and enable port range forwarding from that port to itself [ port 6881 to 6881] and enable it for the ip addy your computer uses.
Hey, I use Azerous as well and the wizard was extremely simple. Question, Im new to bittorent, so does anyone have any suggestions on torrentsites? Also, my dl speeds for a music file are around 6kbps and for an app its about 60kbs. I have a firewall and a router (linkysys surfboard, and standard sp2 windows firewall.) I turned off the firewall, will this help? Anything I should do to increase speeds.... peace theo
