Mmm, so weird fantasy-type books? Letsee:

Incarnations of Immortality series - Piers Anthony - BUt they are difficult to get, I had to trail all over Ebay to get mine.

Discword series - Terry Pratchet - Random and humerous, kind of like MOnty Python. You don't have to read them in order, you can pick up any one that takes your fancy. Usually they follow areas such as the Death books (I love Death, he's ace. He loves cats and eating curries, and tries to do living people things more than he should, he's a sweetheart). The witches books and the Rincewind boks are pretty good too.

Hitchhickers guide to the galaxy - Douglas Adams- Not really fantasy, more Sci-fi, but still a great read.

Dragon books -Anne McAffery - A load of series set in a world where dragons and humans live side by side.

Eh...if you like C.S. Lewis, then I'd suggest reading his science fiction trilogy...Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. Personally, I'm not a fan...but if you like Lewis, then you'd probably like those.

Susan Cooper wrote a fantasy series... it's geared towards ages 10 and up. It's called "the Dark is Rising". It's centered around a group of kids and their adventures fighting the "dark'.

Try Adoulus Huxley.....most of his characters were younger, but he doesnt "write down" to a childs level...

Most of the stuff you guys are suggesting is just fantasy, but the guy clearly asked for the specific type of fantasy that is masked a child's book. I'd suggest LeGuin's EarthSea books, the Hobbit, Gulliver's Travels... Stuff like that. There was also another book of this sort that I really enjoyed but I forgot nearly everything about it except that the main character was a boy named Taran.

But of course, if we are dealing with any kind of fantasy I'd definatly suggest The Death Gate Cycle (Weis and Hickman) and pretty much everything by Robin Hobb, especially the Farseer books.

sadly tho they arent......most of his stuff is just fictioalized morman doctrine, (is that an oxymoron). Memory of Earth, and the ensuing installments are nothing more than the book of mormon, rewritten in sci-fi form. Check it out yourself.
But of course you recognized the barely hidden simmularities
between "Enders Game" and "Starship Troopers".

I've never ready any Orson Scott Card, but I read about his books on forums and it seems like most people believe that his Mormon beliefs are not reflected in the books. I'm in no position to comment, of course.

"Illusions" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull", both by Richard Bach.

Unfortunately, no other books can compare to the Chronicles of Narnia.
