bam! kay, so what do you guys do about loose hairs???

i've had my dreads for over 2 years now, and since the beginning i've always trimmed them. i know that it's a pain to try and work them into the dreads, so i just trimmed them so that my head didn't look all messy and blah.

but about 7 or 8 months ago, i decided that i wanted to let them grow out, to see how that worked out. i wanted to have long hair mixed in with the dreads, cuz i thought it would look cool. but, about 3 or 4 months ago, i got sick of it and decided i didn't want them long anymore. but nooow, my girlfriend won't let me cut them, cuz she freaks at the thought of scissors going anywhere near my head. i don't want to cut the dreads, just the annoying loose hairs. they've grown to like, 4 inches now and they look really stupid, to me. they stand up on end alot, and get all frizzy and curly and just make my dreads look gross. i've included pictures to show you what i mean:

this is what my head looked like when i used to trim them:

and this is what my head looks like now:

so what do you guys do about loose hairs??

Okay well i say love them and leave them, and eventually years down the road they find a home...
I have SOOOOOO many!!!!!!!! just look at my gallery... my hair is messy

    i love it!!

But if your really wanting them gone... it takes alot of work..

if u get a friend u can get them to sew all of the loose hair into the dreads root and then

    OR

You can take the loose hair closest to the nearest dread... and then roll the lose hair in your fingers until its a dreadlocked little ball.. and then push it through the root of the nearest dread.

I personally think your hair looks better in the second picture. If you're set on getting rid of the loose hair, though, I guess Buddha's suggestions sound good.

Yea dud e i leave the fuzzies... :) i quite like them myself and hell i have a LOT of them :p

But if you really wanna get rid of them, dont cut them, crochet them into the roots of the dreads. Takes a loooong time but it means you dont get bits of thread in them from sewing them in and its more likely to stay in there than rolling them into a ball and tucking into the root :)

    haha no prob dude.

One more bit of advice. only croshet into the roots little biots because over croched dreads (and trust me it gets addictive) look really forced.. like someones jsut platted the hair. but if you do it in little bits and subtly then it usually ok :)

I use the crochet method on the dreads along my part. The rest have mad fluff/frizz but it's all part of the beauty of dreads

When I say sewing in the loose that’s essentially what I mean..

You make a little loop with the thread. then put the loose hair in the loop and pull it threw a few times then just leave it and use the loopy thread to do the rest of your head and then whala! I guess its a home made crochet thingy cause I have fail to ever find one.

Aww, you look beautiful in both pics, inbloom. But with my lose hairs, I find myself just kinda playin' with them...like kinda making new little dreadies with them and twisting them when I'm bored. They can get annoying sometimes, but they're fun to play with...haha. I would suggest the crocheting method or whatever...but it'll probably just fall out again...'cause yeah, that's what happened to me. So now I just say fuck it...lol.

yea that method works too but i found that sooo much more fiddley than using the hook :S i used to use a method a bit like that for putting beads on my hair (before i had dreads)

mine aren't really "fuzzies" anymore, though. they got so long that it's just loose, straight hair in the midst of all my dreads. will these methods still work??

I wouldnt worry about it either. I am one of the ones who lets the loose hair just do its own thing. After awhile they will dread up or fall out.

Ok so I have this little problem...
my hair has roots that are always about 1 ½ inches of straight hair, then it dreadlocks... just this continual cycle.. but that’s not the problem.

The problem is.. my hair gets caught onto many various things, so it rips little peaces out. Now I have a huge increase of loose hairs, more then I had when I started.... but my roots are just (too long)-(on top) that I cant use any method of putting the hair back into the dread.. so there getting thinner....... so really its only a problem on the top of my head.

any way I’m not asking for advice, I just wanted to share this to our beautiful community. and ask if any one has had this experience?

I got the loose roots too, I think everyone does! Some of the ones n the front are dreaded at the bottom but not at the top(if that makes any sense). So alot of times the loose bits get caught on my eyebrow ring. Other than that I only get em caught up on my hands when I am palm rolling.

i get mine caught on my cartilage pircing since i changed it to a bar. the hoop stoped me from sleeping on that side of my head so i prefure the bar but its annoying when it gets tangled in with the dread that starts just above my ear :)

My dreads always get caught and wrapped around my nape piercing.. soo painful when the dreads tug on it. Also when they get wrapped around it's a bitch trying to unravel the dread from the piercing.
