Tampons or pads? I want to do what's better for the earth (less garbage), but I don't really like tampons too much...

think outside the cardboard box! Use tampons/disposable pads in the day and reuseables at night. THAT will lessen the impact on the landfill (cause you are NOT supposed to flush those babies down).
I buy maybe a box of 20 every six months so I have one emergency tampon (and I like naturacare and ob) and I use a keeper cup. I use flannel pads for security overnight, and I have used old clean socks as pads. Gotta do SOMETHING with the singles!

i like the reusables, especially at night or just around the house. i use tampons when i'm exercising. the thing about tampons is that they aren't so good for your body so i don't use them very often...

the reusables will totally save you some cash.

Reusables are very easy to make and are wonderful. There's some good sites on the net to give simple instructions for making them. Also, I understande sea sponges make excellent psuedo "tampons" and are easily washed in vinegar and reused over and over. Lots of women use these products, and with much healthier results than using disposable over-the-counter products.

There's also Luna Pads... reusables you can buy, albeit they are expensive but are a wonderful option.

Here's some links that might be helpful:

My theory is, if god intended for us to be that thrifty and evironmental, he wouldn't have invented The Curse to begin with.

Reusable femine products are not unsanitary. Its just about the same as washing your underwear and wearing them again. Your monthly blood is not "dirty". People have been using cloth diapers on their babies, cloth pads during their cycle, and handkerchiefs to blow their noses FOREVER. You just wash it out and reuse it.

Ha ha, drumminmama, I LOVE the sock idea! My dogs have enough sock toys, and I have enough cleaning rags, so I'll start using them for other things. Great idea.

    Peace, Leah

    thanks, DecSun.

    reuseables unsanitary?
    is your underwear unsanitary?
    was your grandmother/greatgrandmother?
    Are cloth diapers unsanitary?
Only while soiled... so keep a sealable pitcher next to the loo filled with washing soda/baking soda/ soap and water. Think small diaper pail.
I wash mine out by hand nightly with Dr. Bronner's.
    I do prefer the Keeper.
