Us humans give value to everything. We don't always give things an actual value but through comparison everything ends up with some sort of value. Now think about this for a second: What would it be like if we didn't perceive everything through value? and By giving things value are we hiding what it truly is?

If I understand the question correctly, I don't think it's possible for us not to attach value, be it direct or indirect, because everything we know and understand is in relation to something else.

I think the only way to live in world where value is non-existant, we'd have to live in the realm of the absolute opposed to the realm of relativity like we do now. And if that were the case (living in the absolute) then we wouldn't be.

I hope I make just a little sense.

they charge for music because someone has to make the music, they deserve a living. people forget that musicians are people who need to survive like everyne else. at the same rate, those who are independant deserve it even more.

anywya, you cant escape any sort of value, its part of human nature. its how the mind is wired. you can tell yourself and trick yourself into thinkning that everything is equal, but thehuman brain always ranks everything in order of whatever. not that tricking yourself to think like that is a bad thing. but for human nature to work, things need a value. a preference. just some things dont need it.

But why do we need paper with different numbers on them to tell us how much something is worth?

Values to me are/should be individual.

You have your values. I have my values. They are most likley different. Define value. As a whole we dfine it as such :

    val·ue [ vállyoo ]

    noun (plural val·ues)

    1. monetary worth: an amount expressed in money or another medium of exchange that is thought to be a fair exchange for something
goods to the value of $500

    2. full recovered worth: the adequate or satisfactory return on or recompense for something
    it’s value for money

    3. worth or importance: the worth, importance, or usefulness of something to somebody
a ring with great sentimental value

    4. linguistics meaning: the exact meaning or significance of a word

    5. mathematics numerical quantity: a numerical quantity assigned to a mathematical symbol

    6. music length of a note: the length of time that a note or pause is held

    7. arts shade of a color: in painting and drawing, the lightness or darkness of a color

    8. phonetics sound represented: the quality or tone of a speech sound that a letter or written character represents, especially in a particular context when in isolation it can represent more than one sound

As long as we respect each others values/ not cross personal boundaries ...it seems peaceful halfway point can be achieved in most anything and not hiding a thing becuase I see you clearly and you see me clearly and if I really cant deal with it .. I walk away

If nothing had value, would there be anything worth to live for?

If valuation was the firing of a neuron that closed our eyes for a moment, there would be things unseen. (Sometimes the outlines of invisibilities pass before my eyes.) I sometimes wonder, 'is there something other just under the fabric of my universe? What if Adam had sneezed and blinked? Would we call a horse a cow?

There is, in the gospels, an interesting parable in which it is implied that God made 'fake' people - they exist for the sole purpose of being destroyed when destuction is called for. They are the chaff that grows up with the wheat until the time of the end - all along, almost identical in every respect to the rest of us. What are the telling points I wonder. Is their skin a little rubbery; do they have spaces between their teeth; are they just a little too perfect?

Is your neighbor one of them? Which set of values should we employ to make a judgement?

Theres two types of value for me. spiritual/sentimental value and value as in money. I think a balance of both is enough to be healthyly happy and it is greed which unbalances this theory and will destroy you in one way or another.:sunglasse
