Hey was thinking of ordering some clothing/jewelry to sell online. Those of you who have sites that sell stuff, are they profitable ?

Well bro theres a number of things to consider. 1) Target audience: Who are you selling to? Is there high demand? Does your product have a way to reach the target (IE selling amish goods online is a bad idea.)
    2) Advertising space: Are you going to give space to ad agencies on your site? For this your gonna need a lot of hits but it gives extra dough (Note. Pop ups are a BIGGGG turn off to shoppers)
    3) Promoting: How are you gonna get your site to be visited? Are you gonna pay for ads?

Hey just chatted with a lady and she has friends who do nothing but go to estate sells and flea markets then sell the stuff on ebay. they make a good living off of it.
Well I was thinking of making jewelry out of the local seaglass and shells. Also sell a line of import clothes and such maybe some exotic home furnishings. Just ideas running wild through my head at the moment.

depends on what your selling, how good you webdesign skills are and if you have enuff time to actually make your plan work. i had a site but it didnt work out cuz i didnt have enuff free time to keep it going. i did learn something tho, if you put a bag of frozen dogshit on ebay someone is bound to buy it.
if i go to a website that has cool stuff but the site looks like they dont know how to use html i usually dont buy from them........

my mom has a website for her business, she's been doing rather well on it... you just have to make sure that you're advertising for it... try contacting companies with sites that are similar to yours, and advertise through them to get you started...

okay went online looking for books to teach me how to make jewelry. Mainly I need to know about wire techniques . Found a used book on ebay. I've designed a few sites for myself so have somewhat of a knowledge of html. This morning I went over to the beach and started picking up all the shells and stones that I thought would make interesting jewelry. Think I just might go for it and try. Heck beats not trying at all.

My mom had a site, it worked pretty well. It's a good way to get people from faraway lands to buy your stuff if you advertise correctly (like NOT SPAMMING but in chat rooms, message boards, etc).

My daughter and I have been wanting to do the same, but I've lacked the computer skills. My son-in-law has the skills but little time to help us out right now. We have mostly sold locally at festivals and such and have had a fairly good response to our wearable art.

I stumbled upon this online jewelry forum with alot of knowledgable craftsmen on it.
Man, there is so much info. I think I'm really going to go for starting my own business. Hey better than saying "what if i would of " down the road. Most of the people on the forums have to buy gems. That takes alot. But I figure that being able to get my gems off the beach for free will make a big difference. I love sea glass so alot will be made with it. Man my mind is in a whirl with ideas.
