personally...I think no....being vegetarian is a choice....men can choose just as equally as women....

but scientifically or whatever...I haven't got a clue...

I suppose you could argue that women are more likely to be swayed by the more emotive arguments of vegetarianism. In truth though, I think age is more of a factor, and gender roles seem to be of declining significance amongst the younger generation.

I don't think so. I think it's more of a psychological factor (society's views on men).

I would think it is the opposite. When women have their period, they lose a lot of iron, and need to find ways to replenish it. Red meat is very high in iron, which is why a lot of vegetarian women crave a big hamburger about once a month!

I always disliked red meat, even before I was vegeterian. So I never crave it! :)

I have definatly met ALOT more vegetarian females then males....so im going to say sex could be a factor....I would also say common sence would be a factor to...maybe ladies have a bit more of that then men. I don't think your going to find alot of guys to be overly sensitive to the pain and suffering the animals face....partly due to ignorance on the subject and partly cause they just don't care....I mean if your not disgusted by the treatment of people on this planet...I doubt youll have any sympathy for the "food".
    Its sad.....

Man's inhumanity to animals is directly related to man's inhumanity to man. Men are much more violent than women and meat contains lots of testosterone to fire up the aggressive tendencies. The real killers in the world are meat eating men, having said that I would mention that Hitler was a vegetarian but then perhaps the exception makes the rule?

sex is biological, so i doubt highly that the female sex is more adpatable to a vegetarian lifestyle. (i've known a few guys) gender is social (we are socialized to view what is feminine and masculine), and i think a lot of people are more accepting of it existing in females instead of men, (as if not eating meat makes someone less of a man). society doesn't give males as much room to be more senstive... yet. but we're working on it.

I think women are more likely to become vegetarian because generally women are more empathetic.

ummm no i dont think so, i have never heard that, i have a lot of vegan female freinds and i have NEVER been aware of them craving meat.
Myself i am vegan and a woman, my iron levels are perfect....no corpse eating needed.

I agree with Kilgore's comment. Women are generally more empathetic, and therefore are more prone to vegetarianism for ethical reasons. I would also say that women are overrepresented among "health vegetarians", just like they are more likely to go on other kinds of diets than men are. Personally, I have experienced much more sympathy and understanding for my choice from women than from other men.

To be honest I've only met one female that was vegetarian and I've meet tons of guys that where. But I don't think gender plays a role in it at all.

    I agree with Shadowplay.

Hitler wasn't a vegetarian, he was supposed to be (Doctor's advice) but never really took it on board.

Not that it makes much diffrence, can't judge a whole group by one bad example.

    Otherwise totally agree :)

    This has been debunked repeatedly.
He would go on meat-free jags for his health (obviously it does little for mental health)
I don't think ANY veg would cosider squab and blood sausage vegetarian food.
