I know that a lot of people come in here looking for dread advice, so if you haven't seen my posts in the dread forum, I'll post it here, too, since this place seems to have way more traffic. Some people do and some don't like this. I personally think that it's awsome. I really wanted dreads, but I tend to get bored with my hair realllllly fast, so I didn't want something that I was stuck with. So, I used extensions. I bought about 6 packs of hair from walmart for $2.80 each, which is about enough for my head. I cut a thick strand off, then all I did was back-comb the hair half way to the top and then twisted it. Then I used my hair dryed or crimper to keep it in that shape. (the hair is actually a kanakelon, so it melts with heat). The messier the back-combing, the better. Then I braid the top half that I didn't back-comb or anything about 2-3 inches into my real hair, and then back-comb, twist and heat that one into place. There's about a zillion ways to do them and put them in your hair, so here's a link to an awsome site, including the method that I used. Some people think that they don't look like real dreads, but people can't tell the difference with the ones that I have in my hair! I love 'em. And if I change my mind, I just take 'em out, and all my old hair is the same way it was. http://quinnster.co.uk/hair/ click on where it says 'dreads'
quinnster's a fantastic site, everyone on the message board is lovely. I used to be really into dread extensions a few years back, I still have loads of pieces I made. I might donate them to some extension loving friends.
It's nice to finally meet another extension lover. I couldn't get the message board on there to work properly, though, which sucked. A lot of the people on there are really cool.
