what are your all time favorite dead songs? mine are wharf rat, althea, terappin station, and ripple. i mean all songs are good but i think those are the best. oh i forgot to mention loser which is a great song. i thin kthat the music really hits you when you get really stoned and then play it really loud. whichever songs make you float away are the best songs and theses all do it for me. thank god my frined introduced me because now i cant picture myself listening to anything else.
mine are Box of Rain Sugaree U.S Blues I do have more but I just love to listen to those. I am like in love with the grateful dead! I know this sounds werid but my dad was a total hippie in the 60's 70's and like that was his fav band i guess so when i was little he still played their music so thats all i heard when i was little and all i knew so know like in my school people are like oh yea man grateful dead and im cool with that but when they call me like a poser or somethin, im like umm.... ok becuz i grew up listening to it in my house? well anyways, GRATEFUL DEAD RULES!!
overall: well the universe of Darkstar is always loved. Darkstar either in or out of Other One is my FAVORITE but sugaree, stella blue, (a nice slow) he's gone kill me with their musican beauty. all dead songs, but truly these kill me. terrapin station and althea got that something. amazing main riffs. poetically: attics of my life, ripple, <3 hunter. **i know everyone's favorite's are influenced alot by hunter's lyrics/poetry, along with the music, both have their affect on our love of these songs... but which songs does everyone here connect with the most, lyrically?
sugaree.. althea, midnight moonlight, franklin's tower, and I love to dance to shakedown street. can't forget sugar magnolia
I probably connect most with Ripple lyrically. Ripple, live with Phish is the first dead song i ever heard; it was love at first sound. (though probably not the best version )
Music Never Stopped is very good Donna does a very good job on it, many others but i also really like their earlyer stuff like Alice D. Millionarie and Sitting On Top of the World and of course best dead is live... peace
when i searched through my mind to pull up my favorites, i dont think i even considered any studio recordings at all, not really having a concept of it =P they're great, but can't touch anything live, absolutely nothing, in my opinion. especially when they REALLY connect and on point on one like terrapin station or china cat sunflower... those were the two that popped into my head these last seconds of typing, always in flux though =P TERRAPIN... i can't figure out... amazing.
Man..there are way too many to just pick even a few. High Time will always hold a special place in my heart. Friend of the Devil always takes me back, it was the first Dead song I ever heard, and it's always been a favorite. I'll have to agree with Olhippie too. It's all about what kind of mood I'm in.
Where to even start... Terrapin Station, Ripple, Fire on the Mountian, Shakedown Street, He's Gone, Here Comes Sunshine, Me and My Uncle, Sugaree, Stella Blue, Friend of the Devil... but so many more I can even begin to type em all!
I am a huge fan of most of the suites....Like Lost Sailor/Saint of Circumstance...Terrapin....Help/Slip/Franklin....Scarlet/Fire.....Then I have just about anything Brent....I was really digging Jerry's new songs before he died like Lazy River Road and So Many Roads...but mos def Birdsong, Tennessee Jed and Bertha!!!
i am new to grateful dead have not heard them all but what i have i really love. so far my fav would be box of rain.
