I believe your dreads look shitty... and they will continue to look shitty for the following year or 2. However when this time is up your dreads will not look completaly shit

Thats about how long mine are, and they started over 2 years ago as well. Nubs sucked.
But, at least they are long enough to wear back and look fine now.

 

They were maybe 3 inches if that. And I backcombed them, and rubbed them a lot with a wool sock. The great thing about dreads, they always look shitty... at least to people without dreads or dready elitists.

 

surely if you back comb 3 inches of hair they'll shrink to like nothing? I would have thought they'd be shorter than they are now, and if they're soft I would think thats because they aren't fully locked yet - more shrinking to do? my hair was 12-14 inches when i started 23 months ago, i now have 12-14 inch dreads almost 2 years later

 

there wasn't really any dreads when I started just kinda balls of knots. I never noticed any shrinkage because they were so short, the shrinkage usually occurs with longer hair that is just starting to dread, and since mine were growing out as dreads from almost nothing there was nothing to shrink initially. And the softness I dunno, they are really tight.
