So I just posted this thread on the wrong forum, because I hadn't discovered this philosophy and relgion forum.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hello Everyone!

Okay, so since I'm taking philosophy classes, I'm doing a project on the 10 commandments being:
    1. You shall have no other Gods but me.
    2. You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.
    3. You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
    4. You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.
    5. Respect your father and mother.
    6. You must not kill.
    7. You must not commit adultery.
    8. You must not steal.
    9. You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.
    10. You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious of his house nor his wife, nor anything that belongs to your neighbour.
I actually need to interview people on their views of these 10 commandments, and I thought that it would make this project a lot more interesting, if I could put in some hippie views. So I was hoping if you, or someone, could actually give their 'hippie' opinion on these commandments. I know it's a lot to ask for, but i'm really hoping someone could give his/her hippie perspective on them.

Thank you so much in advance, I'd really appreciate it if someone would help me!

    Love&Peace,

    Julia

    Well...
the commandments, except for 1 to 4, are great guidelines on how to live a hounest live.

For the rest: They have no value at all, nor do they have anything to do with a "God" or anything like it.

Live your life the way you want it aslong as it's normal, fuck the rules.

Don't know what you're looking for. I guess I'm a hippie, I have a view of the 10 commandments, and I think they're hip, but I don't know if there's anything particularly hip about my views on the subject. They're like chicken soup--following them can't hurt and could help. Jesus (the greatest hippie) summed up the important principles: love God and love your neighbor. That's easier to remember. Love is the answer. You probably know there are differences between the versions found in Exodus and Deuterotomy, and the wording and order of the commandments are different from one religion to another. There's a Jewish version, a Catholic version, a Protestant version, and even a Muslim version. The first four commandments are mainly about duties to God, and the last six are about our duties to each other. With due respect to God, I consider the last six to be good general principles which everybody could follow, but I agree they shouldn't be posted in public places because we don't have an established State religion in this country.
