According to a variety of sources, including the Mayan calendar, the Bible, and the Nostradamus prophecies, 12/21/2012 marks the end of the 25,920-year cycle, and of the world as we know it. It also marks the end of the 2160-year Age of Pisces, the beginning of Aquarius, the close of the Mesoamerican fifth world and the ending of the Kali Yuga of the Hindus. Your thoughts on what's going to happen?

You can't see it just by reading it. Read "The Bible Code" and you'll understand.

Globalization and techonological advancement, world-wide communication/integration, have all been increasing at an exponential rate. This is having an effect of creating more problems in the world, putting the limelight on these problems and others that have gone by unnoticed before, and either exacerbating them or providing a chance for fixing them. With imminent danger of war and use of nuclear arms, large-scale terrorism, and not to mention, 25% of polar ice caps melting ONLY SINCE Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, 90% of aquatic life killed in the past 50 years, meat industry still horrible to animals but now just on a more massive scale, destroying all the jungles and forests we have left to grow produce to feed animals we're going to slaughter instead of feeding the poor, or to grow sugarcane... we're ruining the geosphere, the biosphere, the atmosphere, the oceans, and mistreating the only other animals on our planet, Earth is definitely pissed off at us, and there is still genocide going on and half of the world doesn't even have enought to eat....there's no doubt that something huge is happeneing right now and humans need to make huge changes to account for it. I think we will; all of this stuff is going to force us to change. If we don't, there will be horrible consequences. So I think we will but who knows. I vote for a global elevation of consciousness. I don't see how it could happen, but that doesn't mean it won't.

I know people who built bomb shelters because Nostradamus predicted WWIII would start in 1998. I know people who spent a fortune on generators and supplies becasue scientists predicted Y2K would cripple the civilized world. and I know people who believe the world as we know it will end in 2012 because the ancient Mayan calendar ran out of paper.

I know how these airheads think. in 2013 if you and ask why nothing happened they will optimistically say "oh but it did!" and they will point out some minor changes and trends that they claim fulfilled the prophecy.

lol hmm... their calculations were off? I will clear this up, Ancient Mayans never predicted that the world would end. The Mayans had a very complex calendar system that was dead accurate. They chose to end their long time keeping at winter solstice of 2012 (Dec 21-23), which is amazing to think that they were able to pin-point a winter solstice far off into the future. They chose to end the calendar here because there will be an eclipse of the sun with the ecliptic path on the galatic equator in the center of the Milky Way, along with the other planets lined up to form the Sacred Tree. People jump to conclusions out of paranoia and make up stupid "theories" that the human race will end and yada yada and all that good stuff..

I think, like another poster said, that the way we live will change (have to depend on ourselves and the earth more) and that there will be a global elevation of consciousness. Some people may well die because of the climate changes and catastrophes we're already experiencing in excess (Katrina, 911, the war on terror, the tsunamis etc.). But I don't think the world will end.

I believe the sumerians have thier own issues with the at or around 2012 timeframe.
Also happens to be a time where the earth's magnetosphere is going to drop due to pole shifting and worse yet that may coincide with the sun doing the same (solar blasts). I'd seen something on that worry on the discovery channel.

With all the credibility the worries of 2012 gets, NASA's concerns, the sumerianss and mayans' predictions or calenders, etc, etc, ...we'll just get sucker-punched by yellowstone's supervolcano finally blowing.
    lol

    No, no lol.

it is the nature of all prophesy inheirently to be missinterpreted.

there is perhaps, a mapable periodicity to the ups and downs of collective human fortune. so i'm not saying all prophesy is utter and complete nonsense.

just that most of what most people make of it, almost invariably is.

as i've pointed out many times elsewhere, several things of broad signifigance are likely to have culminated on or close to that year. and again yet others, converging toward, at least its decade. none of them involve the core of the earth dissappearing or even the instantanious demise of the human species.

but they are dramatic and signifigant in their own way.

the polar ice caps are likely to be melting completely every summer by then. and global climate chainge is already having effects culturally and economicly and will only continue to do so more and more vissibly untill at least a decade or so after we stop contributing to it, which we are doing by using combustion to generate energy and propell transportation.

as for the year itself, it is one of those every four years that is a u.s. presidential election year. perhapse there will be more signifigant chainges in national and even planetary politics then merely who'se nominally 'in charge'

    signifigant paradigm and cultural chainges.

but a bell isn't going to toll somewhere and all of us fall down dead at the instant of its peal. nor float away into some fancifully glorious sky.

We will die whenever the time comes. Hell, there could be this huge asteroid that not even NASA seen coming, unlikely, but heck we are only humans and can miss things like that. Live life and stop worrying...goodness.
