Now first, I'm only 5'0. But yes, I weigh 85.2 lbs. I had a baby, ten months ago, and I learned that being 5'0 I should be around 97-127 lbs. Any tips on gaining weight?
lifting weights/strenght training helps out too (sounds counter-intuitive, but muscle weighs more than fat and is healthier to have)
some people are just naturally thin. I was about your size at your age. I was constantly forcing myself to overeat in attempt to gain weight, starting as a small child and it got worse as a teenager because people always saying things about me being anorexic and stuff, and I never did gain anyway! AND... when I was in my mid-twenties and my metabolism dropped like a rock, and I was accustomed to making myself eat too much, I gained and gained and gained and now I have an entirely different problem. don't worry about it. Eat a good, healthy diet, and stop eating when you are full. Fattening yourself up on crap foods won't make you any healthier.
As long as you're healthy, sweetie, that's all that matters. Although if you really do want to gain weight, snacking on things like peanut butter, trail mix, Ensure (the orange stuff's actually really yummy, like creamsicles!), granola and yogurt, etc is good. Try boosting your caloric intake by about 500-1000 calories (I was told this when trying to gain weight), but not with chips and all that fried stuff; you might want to ask a dietician or someone for advice
Why not find out if your OB/GYN works with a nutritionist. If I'm not being too invasive, mind if I ask about your ethnic background ?
base your decision on how you feel. Have energy? then you have enough calories. If you have access to your old med records, se if you were under percentile weight as a baby.
I was under weight as a baby too, but i'm 8 lbs less than before i was pregnant. I'm part finnish, french, and i might have italian i don't know. I know theres a little german too.
That is a very ignorant thing to say. for some of us it really isnt that simple. i am 5'2 and 95 pounds. i am taller than both my parents but still have a very small frame. if anything i eat more than the average person but never gain an ounce.
Sunburst- healthy isnt 5.0 and 82 punds... somethign is wrong... Balloonatic- Very simply , jsut add fitness training , and ur set, GOOD NUTRITION, AND 3-5 TIMES A WEEK FITNESS SESSIONS, You wont recognize urself in mirror
Remember healthy fats.... Peanuts, olive oil.... Raw, raw, raw for nutrients. Drink enough water & consider the protein/ weight lifting that was mentioned before. Just don't lift your boobs away & become a man, haha. Also, if you are naturally skinny just chill about it. Just wait for your metabolism to drop & wallow in the nostalgia of it all, heh. On top of that, a lot of times those body mass index charts don't consider muscle mass, etc rendering them inaccurate. They've said on multiple times that I am underweight when I am cushy enough I'd say. 115 at 5'2".... It said my weight lifting brother was very overweight & he's flat as a pancake (freak! haha). So, make sure & consider what YOU think is healthy. Just eat when hungry & you're fine. Just don't let other distort your body image. Ever. Heh. Peacers!
yes, some people really are naturally very thin, just like some are naturally plump. I was skinny as a child and young adult, my children are too. And yes, most people, even doctors, get all bent out of shape about it. I had to fire our first pediatrician because of that (she wanted me to fatten up my child with lots of sugar and fatty foods, like that would somehow make her healthier?). But, my firstborn was never sick, except for getting the snuffles once, until after her third birthday! So what if she weighed about what most six month olds weigh when she was two years of age? Skinny does not always equal unhealthy, nor does fat. What matters is that a person does not endanger themselves in an attempt to become a certain weight. I was very unhealthy in my attempts to gain weight as a young person, and those unhealthy habits continued long after my metabolism dropped and I finally started putting on the pounds I had longed to gain for so long. In our weight-obsessed culture, it's hard to recognize that bodies come in all different shapes and sizes, and how much you weigh doesn't really matter as long as you are healthy and that you feel good about yourself.
Ok, that sounds really wrong. Get a nutritionist in with the OBGYN. This is about the babe! not you. from the Royal college: http://www.rcog.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=1367 not saying any is true, but its a place to start looking (and possibly scratch off the list) http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby/pregnancy/concernpreg/qas/0,,16_158770,00.html nice article Q/A
You know what though? Typically, you're right, it isn't healthy. But some people are just naturally tiny, and have trouble gaining weight, and they're not in any major health crisis. I'm keeping my mind open to all possibilities.
Ok I was 5-2 and 89 lbs and I wound up having a heart attack because the muscle was compromised. Add pregnancy, and the fact that she's LOST more, that's a BIG red flag. but it is up to her, and if she'd rather type than save a baby she supposedly decided to have, well, ball's in her court.
Sunburst- if nothign hurts, or feels wrong it doesnt mean u are healthy and everythign is going right... everythign needs time... People smoke starting at age 17 adn expirience no negative effects expect slight coughing... adn by age 30-40 they are diagnosed with Cancer..... I think what you should do right now.. is switch to juices , water, frutis, some brown rice, and start workign out 3-4 tiems minimum ( 1 hour min, session ) and ur body will slwoly change its flows and become more strogn and healthy not only outside but inside.
