there was a 2 hour documentary special on 1968 on the history channel, i was wondering if anyone else saw it young or old and what they thought of it. Personally I liked it because it focused on the good and bad of '68 not just one or the other. They also compared it to present day, ex: the Vietnam war and the Iraq war. I recomend it to those who havent seen it yet

I also watched it and thought that it was quite good, as it focused on many different aspects of the year

I have it taped. It's so cool. They did it very well, but I wish they'd focused a touch longer on the summer of love and the Diggers. Ah well.

i loved that documentary!~it didn't just show the flowers and carefree side of the 60's, but it showed the scary, terrifying, honest side that i never learned about at school :/.
THAT, friends, is real history. i dont watch TV, but seeing that was worth it.

I saw it; it was excellent. I also loved how they did it with the captioning. A lot of info that I'd never heard before. It was actually one of the best docus I've ever seen.

We enjoyed it, was in 7th grade in '68. brought back memories.
Was heavy on politics, lots o shots of Nixon, really enjoyed Nixon on Rowan & Martins Laugh-in, saying "sock it to me"!

Could have done with less John Stewart and Patrick Buchannon and perhaps
a little Grace Slick, David Crosby or Mick Jagger.

Would have liked a better sound track, perhaps Graham Nash's "Chicago" during the clips of the Democratic Convention in that city, would have been all the narritave needed.

I thought It was really cool. It couldve used more musicians from 68 but thats just me. That cop talking about how the riot wasnt a bad thing made me really mad though.

saw it and liked it alot. i like tom brokaws writing alot too. he's a good reporter and i like him even more after seeing his 1968 show.

to me it pointed out: the good and bad of that year, the feelings of the people in this country at that time, the relevance of another revolution in our country(wich is obviously so needed rt. now), and i noticed in '68 there was actually 3 revolutions going on. womens rights, blacks rights, and general rebellion & nonconformity amongst our society.

the society that existed then was the last chance the american people had at not being pushed around, lied to and fucked by the govt. i feel that the govt actually learned from the american people of that time, and today we are much easier to tame... to not cause disruption or exposure or big change.

there were so many voices in that time. musicians were politically involved and there were just people such as Andy Hoffman and others who just had to speak out abt. the fucked up govt. we live under. Today we have noone like that. Willie Nelson is one i can think of. who stand up for and involve there selves in what they feel is right. Another musician would be Arlo Guthrie...who wrote songs specifically mocking war and death.

We need a revolution in this country people!!!

look how much we pay for gas, look how unsafe we are. look how much of our money goes to taxes for wars were lied to abt. look at our govts. view on environmental issues, and our healthcare system???

i feel generally like the govt. has, in a nutshell ...pushed us under the rug from ever causing an uproar that is so needed. we know this govt is untrue and corrupt in and out but we wont do anything abt it. thats the sad part.

Hophely this country wont goto shit cause that sure seems where its headed.

1968 was very different from now or what will soon be 2008, but it was also similiar in alot of ways.
    peace

It was a strong reminder,I was a jr. in high school then .So much was going on in those days.Watching the news every night with the war in vietnam heavily effected me .I started searching for real meaning and purpose in life. Why are we here?what is the purpose in life?Fortunately ,amazingly ,I found it .It is universal to every human being.what we really want is inside of us,you can feel it it's not an intellectual thing. For those who might be interested check out www.maharaji.net and www.tprf.org check it out Peace to everyone, all day everyday, take care, hugh

I realize that. That doesn't mean it isn't relevant. After all, they touched on JFK.

It isn't just the government, it's the media, but even more so a corrupt economy and abuse of the free market system. The people at the top of the industries need to start working not for money but for common good. As if that will ever happen...one can hope and act and pray!
