Hey I haven't been on for aaaages, my dreads have celebrated their 1st Birthday at the end of August. Pics... And one more for an example of the length Anyhoo the main reason i'm posting is to ask if anyone has much has had much experience with completely natural beeswax. I know there's a lot that advise against it but i don't use the wax very often and i wash my hair to remove the wax and i would like to wax them every now and again but want to use the blocks to ensure they are completely natural. What's the best way to melt the wax onto the dread so that they don't end up all white and flakey? Any ideas
seconded. no reason to use wax. your dreads are awesome! what is the purpose you want to achieve with wax? they don't look like they need any frizzies tamed or anything, so i don't see any reason to do anything different to them! amazing tat down your back btw... is that hieroglyphs?
Thought i'd get a reply on those lines ;o) I don't use much wax at the moment but do want to be able to tame those frizzies for certain occassions, most of the time i embrace them, but i'd like to do it the most natural way possible.
I sort of would like my dreads to look glossy if that makes any sense and at the root they're quite wild hence the hat hehe. The tatt is Elegant Mayan text reading Waterfall of Forenames in Latin (o: Idea's from an album
well the tat is beautiful. but why you want glossy dreads? glossy dreads just look like waxy dreads, which are not healthy. i mean, do whatever you want, but wait until some others on here get on and start talking about wax... if you really wanna tame frizzies and be natural and kind to your dreads, get an aloe plant. but really, i see NO frizzies at your scalp or on your dreads... not like mine that's for sure, lol!
Thank you ) Aloe Plant? I have a few but i would never of thought of putting it on my hair hehe they really the miracle plant. What about if i was to melt the wax with the aloe vera, i know it wouldn't be ideal but i wouldn't use the wax all the time. I'll have to take a pic of my dreads without a hat on, they are really quite fuzzy at the root and it would be on rare occasions i would use the wax.
I definately will take on board what you've said about laying off the wax though. Myv dreads have done really well without it so wouldn't want to spoil that. I promise that if i must use it i'll use it very very sparingly and i'll make sure it's fully washed out. Just wondering, how do you wash your dreads, i've read on this forum about the dreadhead hq and knottyboy scams and that's where i get my shampoo from /o:
Your dreads are looking great!! Really like the beads too. Wow, the first anniversary must be amazing....mine is coming up in December, woohoo! Not anywhere near as long as yours though Can I ask a question - how did you get such nice tips? Did you crochet them or did you just rub them a lot? Wish my tips looked like that!
I have to come clean /o: they're synthetic extensions that i CAN'T wait to cut but not ready for the plunge yet, you can just about tell that they're false but only usually if you already know hehe, the rounded ones are where the extension has fallen out (o: I made the beads myself out of fimo, it's so easy and a lot more cost effective, especially when you pay through the nose for one. I paid £10 for 15 blocks of fimo.
well 1st they look beautifulk but ysa dont waznna ruin the dreads by putting any wax in at all if you already used wax..get it all out its the biggest mistake u can make except if u sopend hundreds of dollars to get dreads then get ewax too use aloe only not aloe woith wax aloe does the same thingas wax but rinces right out if u put wax in u cannot wash it out it never comes out without exctreme effort like bioling.. it traps every bit of dirt u come in contact with i love the tat too but i really rewally hope u decide to stay clear of wax..its nasty shit
for what reason MUST you use wax? i'm confused. wax does NOT wash out. period. i know, i used it, had to comb some dreads out. check out mamamojo's issues with wax. it doesn't wash out and it can cause nasty things like dread rot. if you wanna tame frizzies, just split open an aloe leaf (are they called leaves? hmm... well, u know what i mean, lol!), juice it, and rub the gel/juice on your frizzies, to hold them into your dread for the times you want to "spruce up." then when you wash, it'll come right out, and won't leave you with nasties! and yes, dreadheadhq and knottyboy have OK soaps, but they're way overpriced, and i personally don't want to support websites that give people such fucked up information about how to have nice dreads. you can use Dr. Bronner's soap (bar or liquid) like a lot of people do, or if you prefer an actual shampoo (i do), suave daily clarifying is very cheap and works great, avalon organics works great for me (i don't know about the other types, but i use the peppermint, i've heard some of theirs like the lemon aren't as good for dreads), or really any kind of clarifying shampoo. i see you're in the uk... so maybe some of these brands aren't readily available for you there... but really any cheap clarifying shampoo should be fine, especially as far along as your dreads are. or you can use baking soda, water, and lemon i think is the concoction that a lotta people use to wash their dreads.
Righty Oh people. I'm dropping the waxing idea and i'll use my blocks of beeswax to make candles instead hehe. I've also ordered some Dr Bronners Rose scented liquid soapy stuff and that's arrived today (o: Oh and i'll definately use the aloe vera in futur Funny really because after visited this site again and seeing all the pictures and kind words, not necessarily just to myself but which are freely passed around, i wne tout without my signature head band on that usually smooths my frizzies. This forum reminds me what dreads are about
your dreads are very very very prettiful, congrats to you =] i used kboy shampoo bar on mine, but i dont have dreads anymore so im back to using standard shampoo & conditioner..
fimo as in the modelling clay stuff? always used to use that when i lived abroad, but i never use it anymore
worldpeace no odffence but id advise strongly against crochetting crochetting weakens drereads poking holes through them over and over perforations on stamps create a weak point to make breakage easier crochetting does the same to dreads in addition..if u crochette once new growth will look doffereent and u will have to crochette for life or always have a disteinct difference in look and feel the crocchetterd parts look wovwn, not natturaly matted the best looking dreads result from doing the least to them
