Ah the inevitable war reference for no apparent reason other than that people are talking about England and Germany. Classic top trumps gone wrong.
Justice. And the endless war references when it comes to England-Germany matches are pretty disgusting.
Bringing WWII/politics into sports is of terrible taste and isn't even close to the reason for the ENG-GER rivalry. They are bitter football rivals for a long list of events, not one of which concerning men and women actually dying in war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_and_Germany_football_rivalry
Its a media-driven thing, isn't it ? The Sun says Germany is the old enemy [when they're not saying its France or Europe in general] and the herd follows. And some people who ought to know better. World War 2 was in my grandparents day. I dont see why I should be expected to continue it in any form. Good luck to Germany.
Well you hit the nail on the head. If people take it offensively, they should really wake up. Our newspapers say it, their news papers say it it's just banter. And even still, talking politics the Eurovision is just a singing competition between europe (to answer jmt). The UK are notoriously last each year due to a political voting system by our fellow neighbors. That's all fueled by our recent involvement in war, and people can argue it until their blue in the teeth, we all know it's true. Unless you actually think Serbia are aficionados of popular song, that is Point is, we find it pretty funny. By all means let's not quash free speech and satire until we are all robots. It is only pathetic is anyone actually means any offense, probably more to take it or even create it. If you disagree with me, never mention Hitler ever again like everybody already does.
Oh wooops, I was under the impression Germany flattened London. My bad. Just yet another allied lie they make up.
The next match between the two teams was played on 4 December 1935, at White Hart Lane in London, the first full international to take place between the teams in England and the first since the rise to power of Hitler and the Nazis in 1933. It was also the first match to stir up particular controversy, as The Observer newspaper reported protests by the British Trades Union Congress that the game could be used as a propaganda event by the Nazi regime. "No recent sporting event has been treated with such high seriousness in Germany as this match... Between 7,500 and 8,000 Germans will travel via Dover, and special trains will bring them to London. A description broadcast throughout Germany... Sir Walter Citrine, General Secretary of the TUC, in a further letter to Sir John Simon, the Home Secretary, said that 'such a large and carefully organised Nazi contingent coming to London might confirm the impression among people in this country that the event is being regarded as of some political importance by the visitors' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_and_germany_football_rivalry Thanks for the heads up, Neodude http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_truce#British-German_truce
