and Trey will be a whole year old! How crazy is that??????? I'm gonna blubber like a baby. Anyhow, we are having a small party for him this sunday... did any of you have a 1st birthday party for your kids? I'm just not sure what all to do besides letting him roll around in cake and the opening of presents.
hummm, sounds like what we're planning for Leane! I think that your hands will be full already dealing with the cake clean up and the presents! It's really not like you could plan games or anything, 1 year olds are still pretty little for them all....at least the ones I'm thinking of. But yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe Leane's is coming so fast, too...I even got all misty-eyed the other day thinking about it. It's amazing how much you learn in one year, eh? Last year at this point, we were awiting our baby's birth, clueless about everything that was going to happen to us! Then there was those first weeks, where we felt like they were never going to end.....and then when they did, how happy we were about it! lol I personally never knew a thing about babies, and I can't believe how much I know now, most just from my own instincts, which I think is amazing! Happy birthday, to you too, mama It's your first anniversary of being a mama!
Happy Birthday Trey! We just had a few relatives over for our kids' first birthdays, then a friend or two for birthday #2. A good rule to go by is one (or less) unrelated child guest per year (ie: one for a first birthday, 2 for the second, etc). That way things don't get too wild. Remember one- or two-year-olds will have their parents with them too, and maybe siblings, so that's alot of cake to bake, hehe.
For Danny's first birthday we had family and friends (inclusing all of his playgroup friends) and he had a dairy free apple carrot "cake" (it was more like a bread), and the rest of us had pie. We had a barbeque too. We tried to discourage gifts, but he received some books, which was great and some summer clothes, which was also great. (he is an april baby). He didn't do anything party-ish for his second birthday, because I was having his brother! LOL. He was with my parents so I'm sure he had junk food.
Aww happy birthday Trey My parents did the whole kids party thing for my first birthday; few freiends over to play (with their parents), new outfit (which I still have), a few gifts and some treats to eat. A one year old probably isn't going to 'get' the whole concept or really remember it so you don't need to go overboard. It's more of a photo oppotunity than anything.
Happy birthday, Trey! I'm excited about being able to throw birthday parties. Though, I'll probably cry too.
thanks all ... ooh kirstyn do I ever know what you are talking about!! Trust me the girls here had their hands full with me at the end of my pregnancy and the first few months he was born. I think if he sneezed funny I had a post up going "help me!"... I had a WIC appointment today to test his iron (he was so good too! not a wimper out of him) and get his 'big boy' package and every person I talked to was like 'oh someones got a birthday coming up' and I'd start tearing up. its crazy.... but i started thinking about everything I still have to do and get for his party and my head was rolling because it overwhelmed me. So yea it is gonna be hotdogs, cake, and presents
Awww, give little Trey a big birthday hug from me. One year old. *sighs* Wow, doesn't time just fly by so quickly? {{{Hugs}}}
Awwwwww. Babies are so funny on their first Birthday. They know something is going on and that it, somehow concerns them (of course, at this age, they assume EVERYTHING concerns them) but they are so clueless. Sage kept giving people their presents back at her second birhtday, because she had learned at Christmas that "We give to other people, because we love them." So, every one got the present they gave her back, and we had to keep telling her it was OK to open it. Most of my kids have summer birthdays, so we had outside parties. The baby would get passed around, play in the cake (Sage was taking the cut pieces off the plates and putting them BACK in their places on the cake.) and just crawl around and nurse. (Pretty stressful, all those people getting in your face, gotta have a lot of mama love around at that first party.) Lennon, my only boy, THREW cake at people, and thought that was the funniest thing he ever saw. Of course.
