Wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm a former homeschooling mom (my 2 sons are now in college). Prior to homeschooling, I owned a natural food store (my brother still does) and have recently been politically active. A couple of years ago, I started a group called Mothers for Liberty - which is an evolving discussion/networking group for libertarian-leaning moms raising their children with "a think outside the box" attitude. Glad to be here and am looking forward to some great conversations. Jan
Big Welcome Jan !! I hope to get to talk with you further. Enjoy yourself on the forums. Peace and Love !
Thanks for the welcome ... hope to strike up some conversations here with other liberty-minded, freedom loving folks, interested in 3rd Party Politics, smaller government and "voluntary simplicity". Jan
Welcome. Glad to have you aboard the purple plane. Feel free to post in my forum and or/pm me. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=359
jejstover: Welcome, not that the kids arn't great, but it's nice to see folks that can remember when TV's were black and white.....Dennis
Ah yes ... Black and white TVs (with only 4 channels, and no remotes!), cars with NO seat belts - or seat belt laws, moms who stayed home with their kids (whole neighborhoods full of them), a REAL difference between the Republicans and Democrats .... I could go on and on.....
As a stay at home mother of six, it is nice to come together with another mom that believes life still goes on without cable, Although my 11 year old thinks otherwise. Here's to reminding our youth to find creativity and imagination wherever they may go. WELCOME Jan!
Always nice to meet up with stay-at-home moms ... and a mother of 6 ... Wow! Do you homeschool by any chance? BTW, I did want to clarify my comment about black and white tv w/ four channels. I'm afraid my reference had more to do with my age than my child-rearing techniques. You see, I'm old enough to remember when we ONLY had B&W TV with channels 2,4,5, and 11 ... however, my boys were another story. When they were little we did have cable, but I was selective with what they watched ... and took the time to watch many shows with them to really know what they watching. I remember some mothers objecting to their children watching cartoons, saying cartoons had no value (or worse) ... but as I watched such cartoons as "He-Man" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", I saw valuable lessons taught, morals presented, justice prevail, etc ... all the while my kids were having great fun. Note: Even tho they watched their share of tv, we always focused on the importance of creativity, imagination and play! ... my boys enjoyed and excelled in art (drawing, painting, sculpture, computer generated art, wood working, etc) and we encouraged that! Today my oldest is getting his masters degree in architecture and my youngest is getting his bachelors degree in engineering. To this day, they both are creative kids!
Welcome to The Hip Forums, it's a great place to hang out & you'll meet some real groovy people here too....Dave
Thanks for the welcome. BTW, I'm married to Big D. We met over a guitar, sang together a bit and got married 3 months later ... been together 25 years and counting.
Hari, Thanks for the welcome and the invite to post in your forum. I’ve been meaning to do so for some time now. Had a minute today and wanted to let you know I added some thoughts to your "philosophies on life" thread ....
