I ve just download it this evening.. Gotta say different from both Mers de nom and 13step.. How do you like it?!
its interesting to say the least... someone brought it to work. I didnt realize the album was full of covers either, which is strange. There was one song that I figured out was a cover by the lyrics alone. That was the cover of Depeche Mode's People are People. The instrumentation is so different, you cant easily pick out the song until you catch the lyrics. I didnt even notice the When the Levee Breaks cover either, until I downloaded tracks from the album. Its not their best album, but its unique, even though most of the songs are covers. Maynard makes all the songs his own and puts his own little perverse spin on it.
Ya the CD is a bit different then the previous 2. They manage to really put their own vision of the song into play. Very cool CD case too. Anybody know when TOOL may release their new CD....are they working on that yet or are they still heavily involved with APC???
I thought the new album was fantastic. I love how different each APC album has been. I think Maynard's work on this album was beautifully done. I loved the last song on the album...very deep and mysterious. But what's up with the Parental Advisory sticker? I mean, listening to the album I didn't hear any obscene lyrics or anything. Don't tell me the government was at work on this one... *sigh*
Yay..... maynard doin an album full of covers.... lets look at the talented list of other artists that did a cover album and are no longer around..... Rage Against The Machine - Renegades, Guns N Roses - Spaghetti Incedent..... guess Maynards days are over... what a loss of creativeness, today is another sad day in music history
i liked the album. i'd just rather hear original stuff from them. thirteenth step is still my favorite
I just got done listening to the album for the first time. It's cool but not mind-blowing. It's a must-have for Maynard-heads but I wouldn't recommend it to someone new to APC.
Very good album. I'm listening to it now... It's a little different but that's all good. I like the last song, reminds me of some folklore song out in the midwest during the 1800's, or some Civil War song. "Fiddle and the Drum." Counting Bodies Like Sheep is great. Passive - awesome song... I liked an earlier version of it that I downloaded from a concert recording.. it was wayyy back when during Mer De Noms. Much louder, much much stronger. But, hey, I can't complain. This is great too. Imagine - Alot of controversy with this one between my friends. Some say they ruined the meaning of the song by making it sad and tragic. I liked it. It's APC's own lil spin. All in all though, It's a good album. *Continues to listen to it*. The CD case is lotsa fun too... 3D! Haha. I'm glad Maynard's back with Tool now. -Really- looking forward to new material!
The last song on the album Fiddle and Drum...was originally done by Joni Mitchell. I thought it was brilliantly done, though. fantastic cover
I think my fave on the album is When the Levee Breaks. its so different, its like apc doing a cover of radiohead doing a cover of led zeppelin.
overall, i think this is a really good album. even if it is mostly covers, it gives them all a new perspective, a new light and meaning. hes taking all these old songs and putting them into a modern day perspective, relating them all to the war and the future of this nation. it certianly makes you think if you sit down and listen to the whole thing. i think a live concert of this enitre CD would be the greatest thing to happen in a long time. it would be a whole bunch of people with hippie beliefs and ideas (but not quite traditional hippies) all united by this music. almost like a new woodstock, in a modern day era. it would be hope for a new revolution. maybe i've just been smoking to much, but thats what I think. when the levee breaks has to be my favorite song on the CD.
