I was talking to someone about acid today. He said he is afraid to try acid because of stories of people jumping off cliffs attempting to fly. Good god! How does everyone know and believe this story? All I can really say is "it probably happened once.... I notice you're smoker". Are there any (ideally peer reviewed) papers on this sort of thing? Ideally I want to see a comparison of deaths blamed on illegal drugs and acceptable deaths such as drunk driving, being beaten to death by a bouncer or lung cancer.... I suspect that most people alluding to the idiot trying to fly are actually not interested in taking acid, but need to have a reason to tell other... So I guess there's no real point in debating the subject...
alot of people jump out windows under the influence of alcohol.. the fact the hundreds of people commit suicide under the influence of alcohol, dont make a difference..
I dont know of any papers or anything like that but compared to other drugs/self induced deaths LSD would have one of the lowest mortality rates. People are afraid of what they dont understand. LSD is something that you need to try before you can understand it and the majority of people dont try it. Alcohol on the other hand is something almost everyone has tried and partakes in regularly, therefore there is less fear of the unknown. It doesnt have the same stigma attached.
I hate when I hear that or "I heard one guy took acid then thought he was a glass of orange juice" "Omg I don't want to see pink elephants on the interstate when I'm driving!". Yeah it's bs and it get's on my nerves to lol.
I thought people jumped out the window not to fly but to kill themselves during the comedown?? i thought the " i can fly" part was bullshit. Idk, for me anyways, acid doesnt make me retarded..
people are already retarded before taking any drug. i never do dumb shit on a drug cause i don't do dumb shit while sober...
"Its always the same old LSD story on the news. Young man on acid thought he could fly and jumped out a window. Fuck him he's dead. Good. We lost a moron. If he thought he could fly why didn't he try taking off from the ground first? You don't see pigeons lined up to catch an elevator. Just once I'd like to see a positive LSD story on the news. Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death. Life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves." - Bill Hicks
Y'know - I haven't read nearly enough about these acid people. Hoffman, Hicks, Leary... They seem like a neat bunch. Thanks for this quote!
The wiki page suggests homicide might have been the cause of death too =/ I wonder what else they did to him...
Well i wouldn't exactly call hicks an acid person. He was just an enlightened soul who hated the hypocrisy of seeing anti drug commercials followed by "this buds for you, this buds for me". But he was someone who agreed that the psychedelic experience is exactly what this world needs in order to see beyond the veil of illusion we call reality.
All the more reason to read about him - to not come off as a fool And frankly, what I've seen behind the veil so far is damned scary. Reading their point of view might make me less frightened of that vast nothingness (well that's what I'm seeing anyways!)
Not really. See he votes in elections, and I'd like my kids (when I have them) to live in a better society than today's.
