How do I know for sure if I'm an old hippie? Is it the amount of Beatles records and CDs I own;or the amount of money I have invested in a 401K? And, how often should an old hippie go to the bank? Or should I bank electronically? And one more question. Is $250.00 to much to pay for Simon and Garfunkel concert tickets? Thanks ...:)

Well judging by your past posts and attitude. I would definatly put you in the pure Hippie catogory.

401 k, let it ride, try to keep it out of the war industry.
Online banking, cannot be beat, but don't have much to do with Hippiedome, except the willingess to grow and change
Music collections, well that is always the soundtrack to our lives. Listinging to others put into song what we feel in our hearts. Definitly Hippie!

Old hippies only keep their money under the mattress, We...no banking...or they may dig a hole for it under an oak tree (put the money in a carved wood box, of course...)

There will be a quiz after the next Ed Sulllivan rerun with the Beatles on it...please study your notes...

And, yes, $250 is too much to spend to see Simon and Garfunkle...unless you are really determined...if you do go, please remake the bed after digging the money out from under the mattress...actually, wait a minute, maybe old hippies aren't supposed to make their beds...I'll have to check that one...

    Big Smile!!!!!

OMG. Bear and I have bank accounts, and a 401K and jobs. REVOKE our hippie membership cards immediately! ROTFLMAO!

You get to a certain age and panhandling just doesn't cut it. Neither does crashing at people's houses.

Jeez, WE, if you wanna see S&G and you have the cash, go for it.

    Have good time.

I think that we are all longing for a tribal society. A place where we can live off the land with no rent to pay, no laws etc. In short we want freedom.

Many of us tried back in the 60’s and 70’s to live off the land and for a while I did. The problem was always living in America with all of the taxes and restrictions. I didn’t own the land and after a few years I had to move on.

We romanticized how the Native Americans lived on the plains and in pueblos. When they did this the population of the earth was small. Today there are over 6 billion of us and that number is growing. Our limited resources are disappearing we are fighting for them- look at Iraq. We went there to steel their oil.

I think we have to find a new approach to find our freedom.

    Peace

    I'm trying man, I'm trying....but these damn taxes won't go away...just UP.

We are almost where we want to be,totally off grid.
We have No county water lines, no sewer lines or septic, we growwhat we can and buy the rest locally.
    Lands almost paid off.

Damn computer just won't run off wood......but we do heat with it and I do cook with it alot.
    Wood, not the computer.

Larry and I were talking the other night about how we lived at the park and how if the shit came down, or we got totally "poor" we could always live like that again, hell, we're pretty close now in alot of ways.

We do bank, but keep only a small amount in there, we have a truck that is 20 years old, we have a compost potty we built,we harvest rainwater for alot of our needs and have dug a well ourselves, we have a solar shower, and solar panels and batteries, I don't like umbilical cords...and to be at others mercy or whims.

And I'm trying to get my paintings going so he can get out of that dump truck for good and stop working for the man.

Some people think we're a bit weird or strange....good.

    Hi everyone happy friday...[IMG]

I saw S&G in Washington D.C.during the month of December. I was nine rows from the stage. The concert was so moving and inspirational it brought tears of joy to my eyes. Not too mention all the musical flashbacks they provided.

Sounds wonderful. You’ve got the land and your doing it.

I took a look at your gallery. Your artwork is good. You shouldn’t have trouble selling it. Are you taking it to any arts and craft shows? I used to do this for a living (a long time ago) and had a lot of fun doing it.

Sometimes it's worth paying the big bucks to be a part of a great experience. :)

    Thanks MDreams,

I have sold a few so far on ebay, and am working on 4 more right now to list.

My whole thing is to not be dependent on things that I have no control over.

I also believe that you don't have to live as to any extreme to do this.

I would love to see Simon and Garfunkel.....I love their music.
However not only do I feel that I can't afford it financially, I won't support the price of a ticket.
I feel the more I accept the outrageous whims of any powers that be...it feeds that power.
There are things that I do have to accept...begrudgingly(sp) as it is, and these freaking taxes are an example, we want to own land and that seems to go with the territory, however...we keep our main building to a minimum square footage and didn't use anything flashy looking when we built...thus keeping our assesment on the low side...our real estate taxes are now 185.00 a year...sounds low but they were 54.00 a year before we built anything and it was all woods.
But there are things anyone can do to not be so dependent....

But if people have the money and they feel its justified to pay then that is their business, by me doing my own thing it won't effect the whims of others.

Larry bought me a new guitar not long ago and that may seem frivolous to others...so to each their own...

Man! You can say that again, We. Such a sense of whimsy and fun in her work.

Teepi! I was going to ask you to send me the price of "Cat3", then I noticed that you had sold it. Damn! Let me know when you post more of your work... Please!

I was what you would have called a Radical/Militant sort, back in those daze... never had a notion for money or it's value. Now I'm just a whacky old woman. But, I do like to patronize the arts. It serves two personal values of mine... first off; my artist friends benefit, cause you can't buy necessaries with cabbage... and second; I get to be surrounded by the beauty of art and the spirit of those who created it.

Thank you all so much for the kind words, Art being the personnal thing that it is, truely the kind words of others is so validating.

Sam, that is so funny, I am actually working on something for you, I was going to Pm you to see if it would be ok to mail it....hahahah I just have to laugh when those freaky little kismet type things pop up.

I was just contacted by a nice person who owns a website built around natural living products, clothing, bags, shoes etc. and would like to have some of my things to sell on their site, I am working on drywall now and will be wrapping the raw edges in hemp to give it a nice finish, drywall?? yes, we have quite a few scraps around here and as long as i keep it small seems to be strong enough.(and as some of you know...I like to recycle and do things on the cheap)

If any of you ever wanted to try painting or any kind of art, don't let the fear of imperfection hold you back, I did for awhile and now that I don't worry about that it has opened a whole new world to me....

You are creative Sam, look at the beautiful life you have created for your family...I love looking at your pictures.

    I love you people,
    teepi

Inspiration and tears of joy to the eyes.....priceless.
Then, whatever you paid for that ticket was worth it.

It is just so sad that they charge what they do nowadays, it prevents so many from enjoying what used to be one of my favorite things to do.

The last concert I went to was Melissa Ethridge...about 10 years ago and it was 25.00 per ticket, I took my best girlfriend for her B-day and that was it for me.

One of the first concerts I remeber going to(1970) was Jethro Tull at St. Johns arena in Columbus Ohio......2 whole bucks.....Whoa ho ho...

Geezee-Peezee Guys! I open my big mouth and look'it what happens. You have me blushing.

I guess that manipulating the landscape could be misconstrued as talent, but Ken and I truly do enjoy our little selves out here. (One day I'll have to post pics of some of the stained glass windows and pieces I've done in the past.)

Mushroom, William C. Kirschbaum did that totem for me. Willie is my friend's S.O., I've been friends with her for more than 35 years and carted Willie back and forth to the hospital and rehab when she was in there. I did a story today in my forum about the origin of thought that went behind the sculpt. - I like that View! (from your office)

Thank You, We. Although some folks (not many) can see through my deliberate ruse of being Evil, Wicked, Mean and Nasty (especially in the neighborhood... for being thought of as "crazy" gives me a certain kind of protection when I'm alone here), it is nice to hear that someone thinks well of me every once and again.

Teepi... you shouldn't! Yes, you should. No, you shouldn't! But yes, I'd be honored... I wish that there was a safe way to ship you the scraps of drywall I have here. I don't know what to do with em, well.... lemme think on it, and maybe there's a way.

    Talk at'cha later gang!
