I wasn't sure where to start this thread. So i decided to make it here. If there's a better place to, since i didn't look extremely hard, feel free to politely let me know. But i'm just curious if anyone on these forums has ever tried Absinthe? The real stuff...like Lucid, with real Wormwood and Thujone. I'm just wondering what the effects are like, as this drink very much intrigues me. The Green Fairy. Are hallucinations real? Please share. Thank you.
Believe this is more suited for potent potables lol, but it's whatever. I'm pretty sure it's pretty much like being really wasted (never had anything not kit made with everclear). Not sure about actual hallucinations with it. I was pretty schwasted though.
I drink La Fee on occasion. It's really nothing special in my opinion.. the taste/mouthfeel is so vile I can't get down more than 2 glasses, as hard as I try. I could probably drink more shots, but I feel like shooting it is a shame and sacrilegious. It's just a different kind of buzz.. a little more clear-headed and you won't feel a thing until you stand up. All in all, it's worth a try but don't go into it with any expectations or you'll be disappointed.
I couldn't tell you if I tried the wormwood version or the non wormwood version or the reduced wormwood version but I have drank some form of the stuff and like others have said it tastes awful. I got pretty wasted off of it but certainly didn't hallucinate, I was even kind enough to share some of it with my friend's couch tho. I've also tried the plant form of wormwood and mugwort and smoked that and it produces a short lasting marijuana like buzz which is pleasant. Probably much less then the synthetic cannibinoids and spice or whatevers out though.
you will not have visuals. i have friends who make it. and they make it with alot of wormwood. its just a very clear headed drunk.

You are not going to trip out or hallucinate from partaking in a bit of absinthe. Drink some with friends who appreciate a good conversation. I also find it to be very relaxing. Cheers!
Why does everyone think you hallucinate from absinthe?! I would think you have to drink a dangerous ammount to actually being hallucinating from it. The main differences I notice between it and normal alcohol, are that I have this fake mental clarity where I feel very alert and not intoxicated, but I am. I also imagine hallucinations (not see them). I always imagine what it would be like for a dragon to be in the corner of my room or something. It also seems to make me at least 2x as intoxicated as normal 151 proof alcohol.
Its much lighter mentally, less of a spastic haze. Always geta litre or two when my friend goes to Logomera, that was always just 70-80% absinthe without thujone (I think) as most commercial absinthe doesnt contain wormwood. Although my dad made a gallon or two a few years back which was much nicer. Strong as fuck but still a very functionable and fun drunk. Drink a lot of it and its definitely a stranger drunk but definitely not a hallucinogen. Outside of poitín its one of my favourite spirits.
Poitín is made usually from potatoes, no thujone but strong as fuck depending if its made right. Lethal if its made wrong.
my one experience was not "visionary" but it was something more than alcohol...then i smoked some dmt
for me it's more of a ritualistic pleasure. the glass the spoon, the cube the water. i can drink absinthe all night till the bottle is kicked but i don't get like whiskey wasted. i could probably substitue absinthe for water and drink it everyday. i've actually gone through 3 day binges where the only i drank aside from a big bottle of gatorade was absinthe. if you want to make it a really fun bottle, let some blue lotus petals macerate in the bottle for a week or two, it adds to the intoxication and helps decrease bitterness. my favorite way to imbibe is take a baby food jar, crush up 2g of mushrooms, pour in a double shot of absinthe, seal, let sit for a few hours shaking occasionally, pour the mushroom absinthe in the glass, pour water over sugar, enjoy!!!
If you all have any questions I am a home brewer and distiller with hundreds of gallons of beer,booze,wine,sake,mead,cider, tequila and many other goodies that I have been making for the past 4 years (I'm only 23)...I recently gifted out home grown and distilled absinthe at burning man...90% ABV with a killer herb selection...I'm willing to teach anyone who is passionate about doing it right.
