i had a grow closet some years ago and, as it is often an issue, space was very limited (-1 m ) so i began lookin on the web for some advices and i realy didnt like the idea of choping of the head of my plant or go scrog so i went creative:afro:and tryed something new. So i waited for the good size for regular toping and very carfuly split the top of the stem whit a x-acto wheres the leafs where forming about a quarter inch deep. On the 2 plants that was of good hight, i managed to succesfully do this on one plant, the other plant just lost one of the now *spliced* half head witch just wilted, dryed and died and qwikly began growing again on the remaining half. The other plant witch i was sucessful with stunted groth for about 5 days but then the spliced heads began growing on ther own resulting in double heads and double sides branches one the 2nd set of leafs. I belive this technique is better than waiting for a plant to grow just to cut it's head and is less strssfull, however it is very much tricky than just regular topping since u got to make 2 equal tops, like spliting in half a quarter to make two, if u fail it's just useless the plant will simply continue growing straight whit one main stem.
My personal results where promissing, the sucesfuly spliced plant produced more and better buds under the same lights and nutes.
give me your tought and happy grow !!!:daisy:

Im assuming you had only one room for both veg and flower.

In other cases, you'd just put the plants in flower early. Better when doing this with clones( its easier to get them set at all the same height.

although: if you keep stunning a top, it will just blow out the bottom:

you can keep plants short and branchy, if you keep topping them while they are in 1Qt pots. (using Veg Lighting like Fluoros. HIDS will make them grow to fast. Save the Metal Halides/HPS for your Flowering ..

When topping these the roots will slow down.. this way, you dont get into trouble with root binding. The plants will not have wide leafs til the roots expand.

the plants will sort of bonsai. These then can be transplanted to larger containers, but should remain short if you place them in flowering immediately..

yeah only had one room for veg/bloom and it was my frist indoor grow looking back i know i should just have veged for 2 mabe 3 weeks but i did for a much more longer period hoping to get more ( ahh greed my bad ! )
pots where not a problem is started growth in 3 gal buckets ( whats the point of transplanting when u can start in a big pot anyway )
out of my 6 initial plants, i killed one whit overheated water (fail) and 3 turned male
    strain was ak 47

interesting i could well try this when i get a few scrap or surplus plants sounds a bit hit or miss but was your first try.

ok you can keep a plant down by topping and restricting it roots but you still gotta use enough light to stop from going leggy surely.

i wasent in charge of equipment on that grow, we didnt use HID at all, just 2 set of neon (growlux ) and a 500 w flood light. cost around 60 $ i didnt even pay electricity, for it was included in the rent.

just thought mention it but definitely worth keeping an eye on.
guess pretty pointless sometimes just illuminating the floor with high power lighting.

Must confess have.nt had any spare plants to try it on .

cant see how you can improve from pic clone at 5 weeks from taking off of mummy plant and just over a week from a normal topping.
you could bloom clone as is and it will remain fairly short with 6-8 major branches or grow it into a monster with another 4 weeks of veg.

note. think i may end up growing this one up, nice big pot and put out in a sunny room.

its gorgeous...healthy looking...i'm just gonna say it.....slicing a plant up the middle of a node and cutting it clean off are the same thing as far as the plant is concerned...the plant must compensate and will repair itself...a double main cola is the end result in both..op said himself that one half died on one plant......

would op splice/slice 200 plants with his method?.....

been very lean yr so far on the mj and when every one counts you go with what you know works.

think slicing the head would have more or less same result too. with cannabis it's all about node points be it bud or branches that were it grows.
