Are you immune against advertising? Did you already buy sth because of advertising? I dont remember having ever bought sth because of advertising, maybe as a kid but I dont remember...
the more they try and push a product, the more i resist. if i need something i'll do my own research and make my own mind up. 9 times outta 10 you can make it yourself anyway whatever it is.
I also dont remember ever buying something because of advertising, but I think the effects of advertising can be very subtle. Someone may not realise it is actually influencing what they buy....
I've bought in the past... I do not believe that anyone is completely immune against advertising... its effects aren't necessarily to induce a buy. Part of the message is to establish a promoted commodity or service as a means to achieve happiness. One might not accept that the specific thing is a true route but may well assimilate the notion that something like it is "needed". One can initially reject the actor-depicted bliss from the demonstrated usage of the product/service; exaggerated glee performed by "pose-eaters" sampling foods preserved or processed by a promoted widget for example- then subsequently encounter a friend in real life demonstrating the drug-like high after falling for the promotion and purchasing the widget. We may then mistake the observed short term high as proof that the widget will deliver the promised bliss then buy it- thereby falling for a secondary effect of the advertisement. Advertisements in general seem to establish a premise of an "entitled" standard of living based of acquiring whatever is being advertised. By inducing individuals to see themselves as deprived because they lack a particular gadget fosters a cultural sickness. We seem to see the road to happiness and success courses through the land of "Acquiring Shit". There's the initial high from the "conquest" when the item is first purchased inevitably followed by the crash when lasting happiness is somehow eluded. The purpose is of course not to make us happy but to keep us spending. It's part of the brainwash that establishes a standard of success that effectively addresses corporate profits. The only real effect to the consumer is to strip a measure of assets away. The promised happiness is invariably an illusion. The best way to resist it is to acknowledge that you're vulnerable to it and take all necessary measures to limit your exposure to it. Kill your television.
I cannot recall a thing I bought because I was seduced by the advertisments but it's too subtle often to say that I'm immune. I dare to proclaim I'm one of the persons that are not easily tempted though. I do not have the urge to be the first with a new gadget, I don't have need for stuff to make me happy and last but not the least important: I'm on a pretty tight budget
When I saw an ad for Pepperidge Farm Milano Melts I went out to the store and bought some. Totally worth it.
Once 9/11 happened i started to do research in many areas and it took me places i never thought id go. I don't fall for any of it anymore. Each advertisment to me is just another circus clown holding a nice sigh that usually translates into something along the lines of "buy this product you fucking moron", i don't fall for it.
i didnt even know this thread existed. lol but i did just post in the random thoughts thread. that i bought a WEN hair products kit the other day.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8POeKIfk9qI&feature=relmfu"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8POeKIfk9qI&feature=relmfu (he cheated in that video - he said "no heat" when he obviously did use heat.) btw, i already tried it once, and my hair seems softer and shiner already.. lol seriously.
I cant stand how much advertisements a person see's in a day, does it not annoy the shit of you? The methods they use are also so childish, and the sad thing is it works on alot of people.
I avoid advertisements as much as possible because I don't think anyone is really immune to it. I don't let myself impulse buy either. Advertisements probably effect the impulse shopper more than anyone. When I buy something its because I've thought about it and decided it was something I truly need.
I hardly watch TV but in the past when I have watched a program "brought to you" by a particular advertiser you so sick to death of hearing about that product it all becomes counter-productive. Marketing is about inducing a sense of insufficiency.
i bought a flow-be.....and a juicer....and a franklin mint model of the statue of independence commemorating 911....the statue is sure to be worth thousands very soon jk i am very critical of advertising in general but i appreciate it when a company takes the time to gain my interest as opposed to just getting my attention...clever ads are ok...loud ads suck my fave ad ever is the old man on the dock saying how his wife always wanted to go on a world cruise if he ever won the lottery...and then he turns around and waves goodbye to his wife on the ship as it passes by....
If I enjoy a TV series I’ll avoid watching it until the DVD comes out at the end of the season. Hotwater
TV advertising has little to do with my buying anything since I watch VERY little TV. I do scan "sale papers" and other printed ads mostly just checking prices and availability. Other than where I buy, advertising has little influence.
i cant recall buying anything because i saw an ad and decided to buy it .... i really dont give a shit about them, if i need to buy something ill go and buy ... tv ads are only to give you time to pee anyway
