I think most of us younger generation would like advice from old hippies. If you (with your vast hippie wisdom) were our age (late teens?) in today's society with today's problems, what would your advice be? Another question: Is it still possible to live out some of the old hippy customs? Ex. Organized religion (not all of them, but SOME) have fought back hard against the idea of Free Love, what do you think? Are ideas like that dead in today's world?

"Old hippys don't die, they just lie low until the laughter stops and thier time comes round again."

    I hope so!

Well, I think that every woman I've ever been with had their own uniqueness during sex. And our time here is so short, that experiencing as many different lovers as you can is cool. At least that's what I used to think. At least about sex.

People used to equate Free Love with sexual promiscuity, and too much sex desensitized a lot of people to love itself. But it's not about sex, it's about love. And not just for people, but love of the earth, love of our animal friends. also love of those who in their misguided attempts try to put things on you, because of the label, that they attached to you. Every person deserves the minimal amount of respect due them for being a fellow human being. But beyond that they can earn your disrespect (are you listening George and Donald?).

What can you do? That's easy get involved. Do it for yourself, or for others. Do it for something you believe in or something you think is wrong. The existentialist Sartre said that it's not the hugh traumatic events in our lives that make us go mad, but the little day to day things. To avoid those you must focus your entire being on one cause. If you are focused enough, the little things won't get in the way or bother you. Let the chi flow to you and through you.

There are many mis-conceptions of the term FREE LOVE. But as the word discribe, it's LOVE LOVE Sweet LOVE that is free. That's the only thing free in this system of things.

In the 60s, consumerisum was at it's peak. Goods and servises were outstanding. The Microwave was hot on the market as was eletric ranges and newer and faster cars. Everyone had a peice of the pie.

The younger generation grew restless as their hands were idle and the schools were teaching crap. We as every generation, wanted change.

All the earth was being taken up as parking lots and the only tress you saw was the ones you planted in your own yard or the ones in the park.

I became enraged at a very young age, 12. I was a nature lover. I couldn't understand why I seemed so troubled. I had a good home and good parents that listened, if I talked to them. I had plenty of the wrong foods to eat and chemicalized water to drink ohh and all the cokes I wanted.

I was not like the other kids, I never was. I didn't care if my shoes and purse matched, what purse?? I wasn't interested in where germany was and I didn't like how we had to jump up and hide from imagainary bombs at school either.

Being born in the south made me different from the California kids and they laughed at my Texas drawl. I was an outcast by choice. I never liked competiveness, I still don't.
I liked jeans and t-shirts not dresses and tight shoes.

I started listening to Folk music and let my hair down. I hung around older kids that were called Beatnix. I idenified with them. They understood my unrest.

They taught me to observe my suroundings and what was going on outside my little world of a preteen. I saw the world as dismal with the Viet Nam war raging and the PIGS with clubs everywhere banging heads.

Everything had a price tag attatched. Every one was out to make a buck. Kennedy was in Office and it was the land of plenty. A consumers paradise. While our sons, brothers and husband bleal in a forgien land to fight a forgien man.

No one cared about the planet Earth, as we raced to the moon. We just set out our garbage and never thought of it again. We dumped toxic waste in the oceans and rivers, we pouluted the air with fossil fuel. We blew up Hiroshima with the atom bomb, and release radio-active chemicals into the atmosphier.

Shopping Malls were poping up everywhere and imported fruits and vegetables where hitting the marketplace. Everyone was running around try to grab all the money they could, reguardless of the outcome.

The only thing that didn't have a price tag on it was emotion, and the heaviest emotion was LOVE LOVE LOVE. No one could take it from us, It was the only REAL thing you could count on and it was FREE. FREE LOVE!!! It was never to be associated with sex. Sex has never been free, it always came with a price. To get sex you have to give sex. But Love, you could love someone or something without having to give up something for it.

Love made you feel good, about others and your self. Love made you smile inside, even in your darkest hour. It was love you clinged to not a bright new shinny bicycle. It was LOVE that brought that shinny new bike to you. It was the LOVE that made the bike shine.

The ones that were not part of the solution, are the ones that turned FREE LOVE into free sex. All the free living females were prey to these ones that brought harm and a dirty name to us. It was never about sex.

The men made it about sex bc they wanted to fuck all the women in the world, bc they are horny devils. The majority of Women didn't sit around and think about who they would fuck next, most of them were looking for home and family, the men wanted to be able to come and go bed hopping as they pleased. It turned into a lot of fatherless kids running around with names like moon flower or shadow dust.

Women were upagainst a hard wall when it came to free love. You can love everyone but to have sex with everyone was animalistic and lead to depression and VD ran ramped not to metion the babies that came from one night stands of free love.

People had sex before marriage since time began, it was never labled free love, it was premisques(sp) behavior and not accepted in most circles of society. Mens lust turned it into a sexual thing.

And don't give me no shit about it, I was there and lived it and that's excatly how it was.

Most of the men didn't work, well.. they sold drugs but I don't think that is what I would call work, staying stoned all day talking shit. It was the women who raised the kids in MOST circumstances. It was the AFDC and food stamps that the women and children brought in that kept the men in weed and LSD and a roof over their head.

There were some men that helped with the responsiblities but not many. AS far as manogamy, I never saw much of it on the mans part. I had several men that had ole ladies come knocking on my door. I was even raped by a few when I didn't comply with thier 'needs'. Free love my ass. It was all about sex sex sex, getting as fucked up as possible and to hell with everything else.

Later in the 70s things started to easy off and people started coming together as families and groups to try and make a change. Couples were beginning to stay together and work as teams to raise kids and keep a household together.

It was not about free love anymore, it was about making changes in how we live and we started to become more awere of what was happening to the earth and our spieces.

We got beat out by the machine, we were but a few against the many forces that the gov had to use against us. They did not want our love, they wanted our blood drained out in the streets.

We were messing up their plans. We had to be eleminated. We took our families and hid in the mountain and the deserts. We made our homes and tried to stay out of the man's way.

Most of us are living quietly trying not to draw too much attention to ourselves. Living and being as free as they'll let us.

So to answer the question, Love is FREE FREE FREE, sex comes with a price.

    in love n lite

We all have plenty of love. But we are taught from birth to direct it towards winning, material, money, and power. A poisoning of the soul, but that's what makes the world go round. Very difficult to detach from the machine.

At that time we had our own new musical direction, we had our own expanded ideas of consciousness, and we had visions of what we thought our Utopia should be. Against the backdrop of an idiotic foreign war, we felt that we had the Cure for such a horrific Disease.

Here we are now with another idiotic foreign war, but we're channeling all of our powerful personal energies into Gain, Ambition, Information, Money, and merely Surviving. Today's mainstream music is commercially driven and stale. Instead of Free Love we have sex offender registries and STDs. Our religion is Money, or a Cult that worships Power and Money.

The phrase "Back To The Garden" is really so relevant here. We have to back away from the rat-race of Complicated Lives and get back to something Simpler. You certainly cannot Save Humanity until you have Saved Yourself.......

I hear a lot of people calling our current government a plutocracy, instead of a republic which it's supposed to be. I call it a kleptocracy fueled by corporate welfare.
    For those that don't know;
Plutocracy Government ruled by the rich
Republic Government ruled by elected officials
    Kleptocracy Government ruled by thieves

I am certainly not one of the old hippies, being only 18 years old myself, but I can honestly say that I am all about the concept of free LOVE as long as no one misconstrues it to mean free SEX. I have been with my boyfriend for three years, I have only had sex with him, and I strongly disagree with people who let others use their bodies instead of respecting themselves enough to save their sex for someone who deserves it and will cherish it. LOVE is free to give to anyone you meet. A smile for a stranger on the street is a way to embrace free LOVE. SEX should have nothing to do with it.

wearing a tie-dye doesn't cut it, there's a lot more to it. living in one of the traditionally "hip" areas doesn't cut it, either. cool graphics, a talent for plucking out a tune, feathers and beads...nah, that's not it.

can you really let it go? are you the kind of person who can be happy by your own standards? do you give the other peep room, despite how you personally feel? is your search-for-self sincere? do you feel a one-ness with every creature within your realm of awareness? can you live in the woods for a week without missing anything in your apartment? do you want to stay in the woods? do you stay?

...i forgot my point, but i'm not deleting this much typing :&
