so, I have a bunch of canvas fabric. I'm gonna make a messenger bag from it. I thought I'd do this: the flap would be where his face would be and everything... I'd die the flap yellow and just use arcrylic/fabric paint from there on... and dye the rest of it black. but I've decided it's too hard. it'll just end up looking goofy. I'm just thinking of other ideas... I don' know, something incorporating the peace sign, or nature, or horses. or a combonation of the three.
well, you can still go with the Hendrix image. his image, without the background is a simple screen print, designed when everyone was doing it in their bathroom/ kitchen. maybe just the face on the flap with freehand paint elsewhere?
You dont necessarily need alot of detail Maybe just the main colours of jimi, and the outline of him, with the sunny background.
yeah I was thinking of dying the rest of the bag black, and just painting him and the outward spiral on the flap. I guess thats what you meant. but I got an idea anyways, I'm going to go to the fabric store sometime and get this thin plaid fabric that I like, and sew it over the canvas. But I really like the hendrix idea but I'll do it some other time.
I think I'd cut him off right above the hand, because I can't even do an outline without screwing up majorly.
Hi! I don't know if part of the point is to recreate the picture yourself- if so, never mind the following suggestion. But if you really like the particular picture, you could sew it on to your bag as a patch. First, flip the image on a photo editing program so that his name is backwards - that way, it'll come out right on your finished product. Get some iron-on transfer paper, and print the image onto it (make sure the image is centered so that nothing gets cut off). Cut out the image with about 1/4" all around. Cut out a square of light colored muslin or cotton larger than your picture, and iron on the picture from the transfer paper. Cut off the fabric around the image, and stitch it on to your bag. No, I didn't come up with that myself, I got the idea out of a book. :OP Hope that helps. :O)
And if you want a more hand-painted look - you can just paint over the patch to make it more artsy. It will give you a "paint by numbers" type project.
I wish i could do some kind of silkscreen. just to get the black on, so I just have to paint in the color. iron on transfers look all dull and gross
