So I have a beer at night every other night or basically 3-4 nights a week. On weekends it becomes 2 or 3 beers, sometimes a little more. My friend had been warning me that he heard of a guy who would take a single shot every night, but upon quitting went into severe withdrawal. Had seizures, vomitting and all the other lovely things that go along. I know that it is the most dangerous drug to withdraw from. My question for you all is, what do you think of my habit? Is it a dangerous one and will this lead to dependence?

It is all about the person doing the drinking. To some that would lead to major problems, to others it would not become a problem. If it is causing you to do things that you would not normally do or act in a way you are not proud of then it is a problem. If you have to have it, then it is a problem.

I actually drink quite a bit but I don't really get much noticeable withdrawl if I go without it. When I get in the habit of drinking every day I might feel more depressed or anxious without it but nothing I can't handle.

I think it depends on the person.

I agree with these guys. In my eyes I really do not see it as a problem at all. The guy your friend told you about could have had prior health issue that caused all those things.

Sounds To Me Like It Was A Pre Existing Medical Problem, Lots Of Things

Could Have Set Off His Seizure, Maybe Even Alcohol In Mouthwashes Or

    Some Over The Counter Medications...:).

As For The Subject Of Your Consumption, The Only Problem You Have Is

That Your Drinking Beer Instead Of Australian Wine...[IMG].

    Cheers Glen.

At one time I would drink a fifth of Bourbon a night for three years straight, one day I decided to quit, quit for a year and had no withdraw from it at all.
Guess it may depend on the person.

seizures are a very common withdrawal symptom... i would think it would take ALOTTTT of drinking to be so dependent but everyone is different. the only experience i have with an acquaintance who drank heavly was some serious brain damage. im not sure if due to pre-existing conditions but man this guy started getting real slow and hard to follow sometimes idk how to explain it really, it was like he was getting younger and losing memory and acting more child like

I would think you're a-okay. Studies have shown that one beer a day has the same health benefits as a glass of wine a day, so you're actually doing something healthy :)

Who takes a shot a day anyways? I can understand having a drink a day, because its ritualistic and relaxing, and I can understand drinking several shots in a day in order to get drunk. But just one shot a day? Sounds like one of those "oh my cousin knows a guy who knows a guy whose stomach exploded from drinking soda and eating pop rocks and then smoking real rocks" urban myth kinda things.

Doesn't sound like a problematic amount of alcohol at all. You have nothing to worry about, certainly not withdrawal.

Youre fine. I drink a liter of hard liquor a day and I've never had a seizure or anything even close from going cold turkey just nausea shaking hands loss of coordination and anxiety.
