So i think i just realized that i've been having panic attacks since late highschool. ...It never occured to me before, but the symptoms really fit. Am i being paranoid assigning such a title to these little events?
Thing is though, at the time it feels like i'm dying...
sudden sweat, way too hot, headache, feeling like my throat's going to jump out my body... seeing colors that slowly fade into a white out...
but afterwards i get this really tripped out feeling...
I guess it first started happening when i was doing a lot of hallucinagens, so i dismissed it...
but it's started happening like... when i'm anticipating the dentist... or when my bf has to go into the doctor... or when life feels too overwhelming...

too many dot-dot-dots. sorry. train of thought post for the paranoia forum!

Try to remember that there is nothing to fear except fear itself. Maybe that will help you when you start to feel that way. What doesnt kill you only makes you stronger. And if you die, we all die, did you think you were gonna live forever?

Sweetheart I am so sorry that you are having panic attacks! That is indeed what it sounds like although I am not a doctor. I have been having them for the past couple of years and they really do feel like you are dying.
Mine started after the first time my Mother attempted suicide. Most of the panic attacks didn't even have anything to do with her and they would come up out of nowhere.
I haven't had one in awhile but did have one the other day. A week ago I had an appendectomy and I am five months pregnant. I was laying on my couch and out of nowhere I had all this anxiety becuase I felt that I had lost a week of my life due to being so sick and out of it. It made me very uncomfortable and I had a mild attack.
I really don't have any suggestions other then to try to recognize what may set these off. It is difficult because they can come out of the blue but keeping a log might help with that.
Good luck honey and keep us updated!

I would not worry or be too paranoid over the panic attacks. You express the situational triggers, that the anxiety is uncomfortable for you yet you can identify mostly the cause or 'reason' for the panic attacks.

Many people suffer from anxiety disorders, it is a problem when the anxiety disorder effects your daily living as you are living, effecting relationships, school, work, and such. If it begins to interfere with your daily life or functioning, then I would seek professional help.

"Panic" type disorder an advancement of like general anxiety disorder as many times anxiety disorders begin and develop over time in like stages beinning with anxiety.

Left untreated, aghorophobia can develop, being the mother of them all. Good luck in your struggle with anxiety and do hope for the best in your situatuion- Peace and Tranquility ~rxhead~

Yes, without a doubt, those sound like panic attacks. I myself get them often, mainly focusing on medical issues revolving around death (I had a near death experience two years ago) but I've also learned to reconize that they are indeed controllable by myself, that I can conquer them by talking myself through it mentally, and not let them take over my life.

Panic attacks CAN have a huge impact on your life. Sometimes those with frequent attacks will avoid even going out in public due to fear of having an attack. You don't want yourself to get to that point. If you continue to experience these attacks, discuss it with a doctor, who in turn might suggest a medication to aid in the prevention of more attacks, or recommend a therapist for you.

This is not to be taken as medical advice, but only as friendly suggestions from a follow been there, done that person...try breathing exercises when you feel an attack coming on. Focus on your breathing, deeply inhaling and exhaling until you begin to feel more in control, more calm. That always helps me quite a bit. Or find something to get your mind off of it, keep busy, avoid focusing on the attack, as it can only make it worse.

    Many, many hugs...

Hey,sorry to here you're having these :(. i agree with hippychickmommy go see the doctor and also practice breathing techniques, they do actually help! Breathe in deeply and slowly through your nose and out through your mouth, do it as slow as you can and take really deep breaths. Good Luck xx

I'm not any type of medical professional or anything only speaking from my personal experience with Panic Disorder, OCD, and Agoraphobia...

This experience of 'have something heavy on your chest' and 'hard to breath" are common with panic disorder or panic attacks. BUT, if you have not been diagnosed by a Medical Doctor or Psychiatrist as having Panic Disorder, then you need to see a Medical Doctor (Emergency Room) in order to be sure that the symptoms you describe are not due to any physical sickness or illness.

When I first began having Panic Attacks, I would have to be "Medically Cleared" by the Emergency Room Physcian to rule out serious Cardiac or Respritory type of Emergency's to be sure that the heavy chest and difficulty breathing are not due to a physical nature vs. an anxiety disorder such as having panic attacks. First few times they did EKG's, Blood Work, Chest X-rays in order to make sure there was not a physical problem needing attention before being able to diagnose as an anxiety disorder. If you do have these symptoms, I would suggest getting emergency medical attention or testing just to be safe.

Over time if treated with therapy and/or combination of medications, the disorder did so become for me what I have learned to be my 'normal' type symptoms in comparison to something more serious, foreign, or not of my usual attack. It really is a difficult disorder to maintain for me.

At one time I was dealing with at times trips to the ER at the local hospital and sometimes two days in a row. Over time I have learned to understand better my sypmtoms of the attack and not fly to the ER over such things I would panic as constipation would literally within my mind escalate into such as bowel obstructions, or colorn cancer. It took time and going from in one years time at my worst over 50 visits to ER, to less than a dozen in the last few years.

I haven't even called an Ambulance or Medic in over three years now in panic. It does (Panic Disorder) develop overnight and takes alot of work and effort for me to maintain the different aspects of my anxiety disorders, sorry such a long reply, I have OCD and have been obcessing on this bad...:p

Take Care and Hope you can get some professional help if you find it to be unbearable in your everyday life. peace RxHead

I occasionally have something similar to what you are describing. I'll decide I'm scared of something. That something will then get blown out of proportion and I'll worry about it, and when I worry about it, I have trouble breathing, my palms sweat, and my heartrate increases. I think they're fairly common. As someone said earlier, practise breathing exercises, and if you're particularly worried about it, go see a doctor.

    Hey hon,
I just want you to know that I don't think anyone has ever died from a panic attack ( I read that somewhere. . .google it). Anyway, I've had them since I got in highschool and with breathing techniques and simply realizing that I'm NOT going to die, I have learned to somewhat manage them. Know that you CAN breath, and tell yourself that when you feel like you can't.
