I've known people who have been caught going to the wrong school district and none of them ever had their families brought to court, they were just kicked out of school. But the irony is awesome, this family's life is forever ruined, kids will go to shitty school, mom will make min wage from felony conviction, kids will probably sell drugs to make more money, get arrested, then the judge will rip them a new one and send them to jail for 15 years for the terrible choices they willingly took.

I forgot something hilarious that connects to with what the judge said. Some of you might remember a few months ago when financial guy at one of the big companies hit a doctor with his car, then fled the scene at first. Yes a hit and run, and the judge specifically didn't give him a felony conviction because he said it'd hurt his career in the financial markets. But I mean he was rich and white, so he's good people.

This is horseshit... They should fire those on the school board responsible for this lynching, and send their kids to the district this woman has to send her children to

 

Too bad that those parents who neglect to even send their children to school (and do not home school) are not held as accountable.

It is unfortunate that these particular parents are being punished not only in the present but the future as well.

Why the fuck is it wrong to go to a school outside one's own district?

I went to a school that was way outside my own district. My only punishment was a $65 monthly bus pass and a 45 minute wait time for the bus to take me to the school bus. Oh and I had to sign a sheet of paper at the beginning of each year that simply stated I was attending that school even though I lived outside the district.

 

^^^ a change in the rules.... thought they'd use this family to send out a strong message to poor people everywhere i expect... sometimes, i think it's true to say that the law can be said to be criminally insane innit!

 

Schools in the US are mostly funded through local property taxes, hence every why in two towns that are right next to each other the difference in educational facilities can be enormous depending on the wealth/tax base of the town.

 

So, what is it? They want to keep poor black kids out of well-to-do white kid schools?

 

Basically, don't want my kids to catch the poor. Especially in Ohio, a rust belt state. Rich people in the north are trying to enclave themselves away from the rest of the state despite the fact the whole ship is sinking.

 

Thus proving that money is what most of America really cares about. Not education or the well being of its children.

 

Most Americans actually believe that anyone with enough hard work can become successful and that anyone who is poor chooses to be so. That idea is in fact the main thing that is killing our country and why people often vote against their own self interests(i.e. supporting tax cuts for income brackets they'll never attain yet want to believe they can)

 

Gee, I wonder where they got that idea from?

 

Goddammit I'm pissed.
I haven't been this heated over even things in my own personal life for a long time.
I realize why it isn't OK for her to do what she did, but the fact that they've decided to make an example out of her by ruining her life and dooming her kids, in conjunction with the guy who dodged a bullet in that hit and run case a few months ago is just too much for me to bear.

Although the probable racism is fucked up, what also disturbs me is the class-warfare that is consistently becoming more and more obvious.

The mother committed fraud, but it's essentially harmless while she simultaneously works to better her life, and our legal system's response is to set up a family to fail.

The really fucked up part is that, even though the mother is not a resident of that school district and doesn't contribute through taxes, the kid's grandfather is and does.
So in the event that she goes to jail, will the kids just stay with gramps and then end up going to the same school anyways?
So fucking stupid, the entire board should be removed.


I'm writing a letter, although the people who really need to be writing are the people who reside in that area. I think the prosecutor and the judge are elected officials.
