American stereotypes?

I've heard a few Americans talking about racial stereotypes such as African American stereotypes, but being British I have no idea what these stereotypes are. To us, a stereotypical Americans is someone big, fat, loud and foul-mouthed with no sense of humour. We also know about the "southern" stereotype (people sleeping with their siblings).

But what other stereotypes are there, and what are the racial ones? (We don't have racial stereotypes here.)

 

It's not all Southern people... Just Kentucky and Arkansas.... And we're pretty much big fat loud mouthed spoiled people. I won't deny it.

 

Dont forget West Virginians!!!!!!

All people from California are whackos.
All New Yorkers are assholes.

Well we have our rednecks (people living out in the middle of nowhere, uses chewing tobacco, eats a lot of meat, erc...)

I don't like to sterotype, but I tease my twin sister all the time for being a redneck...she rides bulls in the rodeo, chews tobacco, all that. But that is in good fun. Racial sterotyping is pretty prevalant in the US. I live in Austin, TX and a lot of people here have a problem with the Mexican population. I think that type of attitude is wrong, becuase EVERYONE that came to America came as immagrants (unless you are American-Indian), it is a huge melting pot, and we should consider that a great thing.

 

wisconsin stereotype....if you are from wisconsin, you must automatically like cheese and beer and the packers....

 

lol Just like if you are from Texas you must drive a big truck, drink a lot of beer, and wear a cowboy hat all the time.

Actually, in the U.S. there is a British stereotype that all British people have rotten teeth and bad breath.

I just might be a stereotypical American. I'm not fat, but I am big and loud and dirty-mouthed at times. I'm not sure if I have a sense of humor... I would certainly hope so! ooops... gotta stop being so loud, I yell at random moments... better fix that...

mexicans all have the poor jobs and belong there (not my view, its what people say)

blacks all act like snoop dogg or p. diddy. (again i don't have this viewpoint).

anyone who lives in california is materialistic. and all the girls have boob jobs there and dye their hair blonde.

anyone who drives a taxi doesn't speak english and wears a turban.

I have argued this same point to dizzyman before....there is no country that contains absolutely no racism or stereotyping.

they have regional stereotypes too....the northerners think the southerners are snobs, the southerners think the northerners all work in factories
