Hi! I'm going over to Amsterdam next week for a solo vacation and during my stay I'll be seeing Madonna's "CONFESSIONS" at the Amsterdam Arena. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about the location. I'll be staying near Central Station in the city and heard that it is accessible by taking a train from there, but is it a long journey, and how early might one need to arrive to insure decent floor seats? (I understand it is a HUUUGE venue and that the floor seats are first come, first serve) Also, is cannabis smoking tolerated during concerts? Madonna does not like smoke in general, but if everyone else is doing it, I would love to partake in the moment without fear of leaving the show in handcuffs! BTW I'm new to the forum and apprecaite all of the insight offered by Dutch folks...I am dying to work in your film industry someday!
The Amsterdam Arena is about 20 minute metro ride from Amsterdam Central Station. Take metro # 54 toward Gein. This area is in the south of Amsterdam and is seldom visited by tourists. Gates usually open about 2 hours before showtime and long lines will allready be formed. I can't tell you how early to get there but the earlier the better if you want to be all the way up front. It is a very large venue holding about 40,000. Not sure how many are seats/standing on the floor, but it's several thousand at least. Cannabis smoking is tolerated during concerts most of the time. I've been to several concerts (I've been to over 500 concerts in Amsterdam) in Amsterdam that have banned all smoking period due to a band members wishes. But in the small chance that smoking is not allowed, there are areas at the Arena outside you can go during the concert to smoke. And you should have no problem smoking your choice while waiting in line for the show. Even if you get hasseled about smoking marijuana somewhere you should not be, you will not get arrested in Amsterdam as long as you do as told by the authorities.
Thank you SO much for that response....I am leaving TODAY and pasting that info. into my itinerary right now! I'll be back on the forum FROM AMSTERDAM!! Thanks again !
Our film industry... err, why?? Smoking shouldnt be a problem i think, at all concerts and things ive been to people were smoking and nobody made a problem out of it.
