UPDATE! Anonymous to attack Fullerton, California too! Demands made by group include resignation of police chief and $5 million in compensation.

The group Anonymous has announced plans to attack the City of San Francisco in response to the shutdown of cellular service on the Bart transit system. BART shutdown the cell service to avoid protests that occurred a month before.

    Here is their press release...

So BART is part of the Federal gov't, not the city of San Francisco. Also the place where the protest is set for 5pm today is not policed by SFPD, but by a private security firm!

BART is saying they may shutdown cellphone service again today for the protests.

Interesting. I didn't realize BART was part of the Federal government.

I'm guessing since BART travels thru so many jurisdictions, it was easier for the Feds to deal with.

Why didn't you just leave "the comment" instead of your number?

UPDATE! Anonymous to attack Fullerton California too!

This one is interesting to view. A full five minute video with specific demands including the resignation of the Fullerton PD chief, and at least $5 million in compensation. They're threatening to shutdown the cities internet sites, and mobilize protests on the ground.

You know a lot of activists are startled that the people of SF had their free speech rights abused by BART. After all Berkeley was the inception point of the Free Speech movement, and there are tons of civil rights activists living in the bay area.

People, including one of the board members of BART, have likened this to the censorship of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt. I might add the Iranians shutdown cellphones and the Internet in that country during its aborted revolution, before the web revolt took off in Egypt.

I see BART is a Corporation, not a Federal entity, although it likely required federal licensing and review. So now we have censorship of the public by a Corporation (which happens to have a publicly elected board).

So if there is a private security agency that polices BART, then that company should be fired. I'm not sure who does the policing.

it is my understanding that the point was to 'tie up' their communications with a flood of electronic messages of every kind...if i had managed [sorry no] to get an employee to return the call then i did my part.... ..

...also i was just curious to see if the line would be busy

    The protest is on!

However BART has blocked access to the Civic Center station. Trains are going thru without stopping, and the entrance to the station is blocked by lines of police. There are some protesters on the platform along with media who can't leave.

There are maybe 80-90 protesters and as many police in the area. It has been growing over the past 15 minutes.

The police just cleared the station of protesters, who appear to be marching down Market St. More ppl are joining them.

Three stations are now closed. They are letting people off at Civic Center, but no one can enter.

MUNI (bus service) is no longer stopping at the same three stations too! This is gonna screw up rush hour... although it's nearly over.
