So last night I smoked out this girl I've been dating. She's smoked a large handful of times in her life spread out from age 15-21, but she's not too experienced. She had also never hit a bong before (warning - do not smoke out noobs with a bong and good weed... it is not pretty)

Things were going great for a while. She was laughing hysterically and all of that good stuff. Then, all of a sudden, she turns to me and says, "Um, I'm kind of freaking out right now, because I've never been even close to this high before, and I feel like I am in Reqiuem for a Dream... Oh my god... oh my god... what if I don't come down..." and she had a look of PURE TERROR on her face... :( an awful thing to see. Thank goodness I was able to talk her down in a matter of minutes. She was very uneasy for another couple of hours, and she could've easily slipped back into panic, but after 3-4 hours everything was totally fine.

Just a warning though, brothers and sisters. She totally could have lost her mind last night if I had not been there. In high doses, marijuana can be very very very powerful. I've been there before, and some of you certainly have to. Respect it and it will do you good... but if you disrespect it, one day it could bite you REALLY hard.

I have freaked out of how high I am, it is crazy when you get like that. It is the weirdest feeling, because you KNOW you are freaking out because of how high you are and you should just enjoy it and think the happy weed thoughts but you go into this whole different place that is so confusing. To me the times it has happened, I just stare at everything and dont understand and I feel like Im disconnected from everyone and everything and just a lot of paranoia.
I usually just sit away from everybody and breath while I try to stop thinking, before I know it, Im back again.

Ummm I agree with you except the part about losing her mind. As soon as she wasn't as high she would have been ok. It just sounds a little sensationalized in my opinion, especially if you are talking like that to a novice smoker right before they get high. I wouldnt be surprised if that caused them to think themselves into a bad experience.

I just can't agree. Sure, the chances are very high that she would have been fine upon coming down, but panic attacks/bad trips are very serious things that don't always go away when you come down. As for "talking like that to a novice smoker right before they get high," I have to question your reading comprehension on that one. Read my post again.

All of you cocky teenagers, enjoy your pride while you have it, because one day you are going to find yourself in hell, and you will probably be too stoned/tripped out to remember this post, but you will learn sooner or later... and the later you learn, the more painful it's gonna be.

:) thanks, I wouldn't have it any other way, I felt TERRIBLE about getting her to that point. She took one small bong hit and said she was high but not too high, and I decided to give her a bigger one, and it was obviously a big mistake. It is such a bad feeling to give a friend drugs only to see them descend into a dark, painful place, so I would've done anything for her last night.

My ex-girlfriend went blind on weed once. It was effing crazy. She took a huge bong hit (bong hits always seemed to be involved in these misadventures), and went into the bathroom to cough because she was embarrassed to do it in front of my friends. I went in a couple of minutes later to check on her, and she was in this bizarre trance-like state that I had to wake her up from. If I had walked in 30 seconds later, she would've fallen and hit her head on the floor, because she was about to pass out. When she came to, she explained that everything had gotten so bright that it started to turn black, and then she found herself in this bizarre, nightmarish dreamworld.

Very scary indeed, and not fun at all! Thankfully as soon as we put on a movie, she was fine :)

something similar happened to me once a long time ago.
I came home after a friend's bday and we just smoked and smoked and smoked and smoked and I didnt have anything to eat that day and I was sooooo high.
So im home and of course the first place I go is the kitchen and my brother gets home and Im so high and Im trying to make a sandwich and I can feel myself just everything looks strange and I go to the fridge to look for something and right there I blacked out and threw all the eggs on the floor when I did..
so scary it was, my brother catched me I think, before I fell and he was so cute he cleaned up all the mess... it was sweet, I cried.. haha
    Im such a girl

Like I said before, your posts arent completely false but they seem extremely sensationalized.

And my reading comprehension is fine. I said *if* you are speaking like that to people who are about to get high they might walk into a self fulfilling prophecy.

It's true you said "if," but the comment just seemed out of the blue to me. I totally agree that it can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, though, you are definitely right on that.

And maybe, depending on how you read my post, it could seem like I'm blowing it out of proportion, but other people seem to agree with me/disagree with you. Have you ever had a panic attack before, like a real full blown depersonalization panic attack?

The blacking out thing sounds like something that happens to me and my friends when we hold tons of smoke in too long.. you get the black fuzzy curtain down over your eyes. At that point, you need to blow out that damn smoke.

but your postx do come off as exagurrated, either on your part, or the girls whom these things happened to supposedly.

It probably comes across as exaggerated because you haven't experienced it anything like it. I have actually freaked out a whole lot worse than she did last night. It's not exaggerated even the slightest bit, trust me. In fact, if anything I held back when describing how terrible a situation it could have been.

The reason it made me think about that is because you mentioned she had never hit a bong before, and the way you were talking about it made it seem like you were coaching her on how to smoke and be high or something. Then after my post you said you had given her a small rip and she said she was high, but not too high, so you gave her a bigger one.

All I am saying is from your post here it seems like you take a fear based approach to weed. To me its something to respect, but fearing it is not good or healthy.

I could be wrong, but thats the perception I have of you anyway.

And yes I have experienced full blown panic attacks in my life to the point it has been extremely debilitating at times. I had felt panic before getting high as well. The first time I got extremely high (age 15), I freaked out so bad and thought I was dying that I only smoked it once or twice after that for the next 4 years.

Then sometime around 22-23 I realized that anxiety or panic is something you just have to get comfortable in, because freaking out makes it worse. Once I had that simple realization, I have been able to continually reject anxiety and panic for the most part in all situations high or not.

So basically what I'm getting at is that I believe weed can cause panic, but all it is doing is amplifying pre-existing panic processes. A person can either succumb to that panic, or take control and learn from it.

Also while it can cause panic during the peak of high doses but also act as a learning tool against panic, lower doses are great for general anti-anxiety uses.
