I watched this, and the updates, as best as i could in the UK..
Please god let that child survive!

Can i ask you some questions?
i dont want to seem stupid by asking the obvious, but..

Would better gun laws stop this type of thing?
what laws do the people of USA think would be better?
What punishment in this state, is the guy likely to get?

    Morrow, UK

I don't know the answer about gun ownership. There are a lot of people who think the purpose of the second amendment was for the ethnic cleansing of the Indians, and the repression of the negros. If that is the case, then there should be new regulations. There is also the issue of angry white guys with lots of guns, and their willingness to use guns when they cannot have their way. There have been many cases where road arguments have led to killing by guns. In a recent Texas case, the jury let the white man go, after he killed a Muslim man. There is also the case of Zimmerman killing Trayvon Martin in Florida. The jury let him go, because the 17 year old black youth was tall.

But this particular shooting hasn't been tied to any race related issues, so we don't need to drag race into the story.

Just a nut job with a gun.

ok, I was just giving UK my opinion on gun ownership reasons in the USA. The ownership is predominantly by WASPS, in my opinion; but, I don;t want a distraction here either. The news should give more info on the case at hand here soon.

Yes. There are some ignorant jackasses out there who think the verdict had to do with "onus probandi" or some other legal jargon nonsense.

The real reason Zimmerman was acquitted was because Trayvon Martin was tall.

Florida has let 2 killers walk in the last few years - Zimmerman and Casey Anthony. Even though it wasn't proven HOW the child was killed or died, there really wasn't any doubt that woman let her child die, and then the jury let her walk.

This has nothing to do with the thread topic...I felt I needed to but in and say that I think Zimmerman walked because human life doesn't seem to be valued in Florida. Any reason/excuse for killing or death appears fine down there.

Yeah, I was wondering if we could get through a thread by STM without hearing racist views of America's woes.

    guess not.

any opportunity to soapbox some folks just can't resist

Can we refrain from using a current news thread for rehashing every controversial gun-related incident in the history of US? Just for once?

The real reason behind the gun problem in America is: We are not allowed to talk about it without being verbally attacked by the violent gun slingers. That guy in Kalamazoo was said to be a very nice guy. The act was so ...very American and Patriotic...

Nobody is in any kind of hot water.

I want to know more about this incident, so keep us updated. I'm multitasking; watching the race and web surfing. No time for CNN right now.

I've also heard killers get let go for other reasons...This one in Kalamazoo was said by his neighbors to be a nice guy. He'll likely get off Scott Free. You never know what a central Michigan jury is going to do. Ask any lawyer.
