i know. maybe i didn't phrase that right.

what im saying is, people dont seem to have mercy on the top of their agenda, yet they always beg god for forgiveness. seems two sided to me. why would god forgive you, when you can't forgive your neighbor?

That's why it's stupid that they would stone someone. everyone sins. so should we stone everyone? no. it isn't the answer.

The bible says that god is a vengeful god. Why should his people be any different?

how do you know that God is a vengeful God? have you experienced his vengence? The Bible also says that he is a mercifull God. Have you experienced his mercy? So which is he?

who knows. i think you get what you give. he will be vengeful if you are vengeful. he will be merciful if you are merciful.

    dudes

everyone has there own point of views. No one is going to prove anything by argueing here. If there was a clear cut answer than the term "athiest" wouldn't exist.

Just accept that people have different views and move on.

Like i said before people are products of their environment, something in each one of your environments during your life spurred you into whatever faith you currently practice. And it works for you. More power to you. It's all about transcendance. As long as you realize that life is more than just eating fucking pissing drugging and creating than you're on the right track. Whatever God you turn to to realize this is your personal choice.

My personal choice is that in this world i must be my own divinity. And that's how i live. Empowering myself a little more each day, and making myself a better person. I dont need a God to see that human life is sacred. Some do and thats fine. Just dont argue cause everyone is beating a huge dead horse right now.

If someone has lived in extreme poverty and suffering their whole life, yet lead a life of good, i believe they would be satisfied with what they have. It's like something in your life that you have, say the microwave. Im sure you use it lots and it helps you every day, but most of us take it for granted. however, if it had never been invented, you wouldn't miss it, b/c you wouldn't even know what it is.

not everyone requires the same thing to be happy. Im sure if i traveled the world i could find extremely happy ppl living in shithole places.

im totally chill. i was under the assumption that guitar man is too? i thought we were. I dont really consider our discussion to be an arguement.

Like I stated before, i like these discussions because i think it expands the mind, and allows me to consider things that i have not previously considered. I learn when i am asked a question. wisdom is the ability to have an answer ready for a question. this is what i strive for.

btw. i like the pic you have of the cat lol.

agreed. this is one of my favorite theads iv ever posted on here. I like being able to express my views in context. Some people are getting a little to heated though and i can see the beginnings of a 'Cyber Crusade'.

Religion is always an tough subject becasue everyone has their own takes and views. There is no reason getting too passionate when someone disagres because it's like trying to convince someone that apples are oranges. I didnt really mean you guys in general, it just seems like every one is byond discussion/stating their facts and going straight to "your wrong; im right" which is incorrect no matter who says it in regards to religion.

    This is a great statement.

Case in point: I hate money...i mean i seriously loathe every aspect monetary funds bring to peoples lives. I look around and see people in a hussle an bussle working jobs that they hate, raking in 5 ot 6 figures and still never finding solace. I love the fact that I'm poor as hell, always will be, and am happier that way than most people ever will be. Life is about passion, and if you have to live a life doing something you hate for green paper so you can have all these material things to temporarily pascify, that's the farthest thing from happiness IMO. I live like a Sultan: I have a fridge chalk full of food and cable T.V. I have a guitar, mad movies and a music collection to rival Best Buy's. I live better than 70% of the Earth's population. And I have 8 dollars in my bank acount and even less in my wallet :-D...lovin it

George Jung's dad said it best in blow. "The money isn't real George. When you're up it never last's as long as it should, and when you're down you never think you'll be back up agian, but life goes on." not the exact quote...but you get the point.

Lol you're more than worthy for my cat picture by the way, it's just a basic avatar provided by the site. Anyone can get it.

yeah i hate money too mike. it seems to bring out the worst in people, even when they mean to do good.

in my younger years when i was still questioning why everything couldn't be perfect i used to like to imagine a world that followed these rules.

    A) everything is free.
    B) everyone only takes what they need.
    C) everyone trust and repects everyone else.

    gee wouldn't that be nice?

This'll probably reignite the controversy but I am compelled to respond.

The jist of the above is that it seems 'obvious' therefore it must be. The existence and behavior of quantum particles 'seems' unlikely but, alas, they do exist. We are discussing the existence of the objective God, not the subjective God whose existence cannot ever be disproven.

Yes I accept Darwin's Theory. According to this theory, at the basic level all organisms are driven by the need for Survival and Replication.
Morals: Morality may have helped larger groups of people live together in peace by creating social norms that all people in that group abide by (Survival).
Empathy: Empathy for plight of orphans may have helped save lives of humans who then go on to reproduce thus furthering the survival of the species (Survival & Replication).

Both the above are my hypotheses of the explanation of Morals and Empathy but they do stay within the boundries of Darwin's Theory. Quite pedestrian and simple w/o the need to invoke the invisible hand of a god.
If all organisms on the planet follow Survival & Replication, what makes us think we are the exception? I do know that our big brains don't magically exclude us from being beholden to the the laws of nature.
What does make us unique is that we are able to realize this existence and ponder it, which is just beautiful (especially on acid!).

I think this is really streching it. You also have no evidence for this claim.

Also, I think that if one has a predetermined result in mind, one can look to anything and find some kind of answer to support that result. But everything I just said can be used against me too.

which is why im not getting into it anymore.

Your defining atheist wrong, your describing a materialist. im an atheist but i consider myself a Buddhist, just cause you dont believe in god doesnt mean you believe in nothing. Science has found out that we cant even perceive 96% of the universe with or limited senses. god was MADE UP for the lazy spiritual seeker. Theists think they are spiritual and atheists unspiritual. In my experience its the other way around, ive met nihilist who are heavy into existentialism constantly deepening their knowledge of existence, on the other hand people who believe in god think they already have the mystery solved, they call it god and its whatever they want it to be.

You're doing the same thing that theists are doing to atheists, sunya.

    Please don't assume these things.

There is no other way around about this. One group isn't more of anything.

You seem to be more of a theist than an atheist, for what I hear you describing; You just don't call this God, but I would for many reasons.

This is where we went wrong: We labeled ourselves Theists and Atheists... yes, it does help to describe what it is that you believe in, or rather, describe what you are understanding, but it limits and divides us by adding silly words to what it is that we are. I am not a theist, as much as you are an atheist; We just are.

I just think that reality has a consciousness and that we are all a part of this reality. In other words, we are God in different forms (I think this is one of the messages behind Hinduism.) Science is just a very imperfect way to describe what is going on, here - If God creates anything, then perhaps it is through us.

I just think that consciousness is the only thing that is real, and we build things by using this consciousness - The connected consciousness of reality is God... at least thats the best way I can describe it by using an inferior language system.

Water flows to what is wet and fire shifts to what is dry. Water sustains but overwhelms, fire enlightens but consumes. Clouds follow the dragon and wind follows the tiger. Rain bears much fruit after dragons fight in the meadow, black and yellow blood spills and change is inevitable.
    Namaste -

Def i agree with you but the belief in god is dangerous cause once you say there is a god whatever your view is you make assumptions about how god is moral and is love and all kinds of bs. Everyone argues at which fantasy is right and there all wrong. god is a western concept which is based on DUALISM which means it is a SEPARATE BEING. You are talking about reality and labeling it god like how people try to replace the word god for nature. ive never heard anyone say they dont believe in nature but how many people have said they dont believe in god. Your talking of the esoteric truth and labeling it with dualistic terms. How you describe god sounds more like your views on reality than anything else.

    "Life kills itself to survive"
    "i think therefore i think i am"
"i dream therefore i am not"
