    any parents here?

what would you do if you caught your kids smoking weed, salvia or tobbacco?

if you were a smoker of either?
if you were not a smoker of either?

It would definitley depend on the age of the child and the maturity level of the child. (remember.... a 40 year old is someone's child :) )That would refer to the cannabis and salvia issue. As for tobacco, I would explain to my child what the traditional uses of tobacco were and how it is used. An early teaching and being raised with the respect and understanding for such a scared herb, would hopefully keep them from "smoking".

I would just make them comfortable,
    no big deal
    it's not cocaine or crack
    and it's not meth.

encourage/praise honesty about there drug usage, reccomend moderation and perhaps confront manifesting trends contrary to moderation, specifically in cases were significant negative consequences of there use of drugs manifest(not just stuff like they look tired more, burntout, but more like significant grade drops), condemn it and they will hide it and never learn to have self-honesty in there addictive habits till there sketched off on there own and harsh bottoming out.

Like was said before, its not meth crack or heroin. which may sound silly but you'd be blind to think there aren't alot of kids under the age of 14 using meth, and bearing an honest relationship w/ your kids usage heavy drugs are something you are then more empowered to prevent, my parents never had my trust on such things, and rightfully so, they just went berzerk on everything, so why the hell would I trust them, getting there facts about drugs from groups w/ a clear agenda. kids aren't stupid and won't beleive facts far from the observable truth.

if yer 14, you really shouldn't be doing salvia. seriously.

your parents may get really pissed, but you'll do it if you wanna do it eventually. i just dont think 14 year olds should be doing this drug.

first of all I would not look for drug activity, mj and gentle psychedellics are not that big a problem to health.
I had encountered a daughter after she was smoking with a friend by accident and I pretended not to know.

I was always nearby and ready to help. It took effort and care.

the thing is - young people do things for reasons that we may not fathom, they need their space, independence and also to know you are there to help.

neither of my grown girls seem to like mj now at all, and they only have taken raw leaf salvia once each for digestive disturbance (one had flu and one had appendectomy recovery relief from it).

I did not encourage or discourage mj, and never talked about anything stronger.

Once I talked elder daughter down from a mushroom fear problem when she returned home form a wild high school overnight - intuitively she came to me (she was 17) to be chilled out easy and trusted me not to judge her.

I was much more distressed to rescue an alcohol poisoning incident - hospital and IV were required to prevent serious damage.

with a strong hit of salvia you may confront something that you may wish you had not encountered.
during formative years (14-18) I would not reccommend fostering remorse for that encounter. if it works out well - great, if not, you enter adulthood feeling a bit off balance for no good reason - hence I would not reccommend it.

Salvia is pretty heavy though, and if you really want to do it, then dont, its not an experience to be raped by recreational outlook, and if you try she'll only bite back

Both my kids know I have done quite a bit drugs when I was young but I keep my present drug use private. They trust me when I talk about the dangers of drugs (my brother is a recovering heroin addict) because I also admit that drugs are pleasurable and that some drugs are better alternatives than alcohol.

I have a 20 year old daughter who smokes some weed and I no longer see it as a problem so long as she dosn't smoke every day (she still lives in my house). I caught her smoking weed when she was sixteen and explained the dangers of smoking weed too often. I also explained that she could smoke weed once she turned eighteen, but that she was far too young to be doing it now. You have to let your brain and personality finish developing before messing too much with them. Truthfully I'm more concerned by her sigarette smoking. She knows that I occasionally eat mushrooms and smoke salvia. I would not recomend mushrooms or salvia to her because of her personality, I really don't think she would get anything positive from the experience.

I also have a sixteen year old son, but he dosn't seem that interested in partying and drugs, so there is no problem yet. If he asks, I'll tell him the truth about drugs. Drugs are nice but also have negative sides. Moderation is the key with any drug, whether it's alcohol or weed. If you don't feel you need drugs then there is no reason you should try them. If you're curious, try it once, but stay away from the dangerous stuff. Remember that most drugs are illegal and many people see all drugs as bad, so if you are honest about your drug use, then you have to be able to stand your ground and face the concequenses. Using drug often means that you have to live a double life and lie to avoid societies punishment.

I would not recomend salvia to my kids (at any age), but on the other hand there are not that many adults I would recomend it to either. Mushrooms maybe, but not until they are at least 25.

    I'm a parent (3 awesome kids).

Well, here is the thing.. its not as easy as people make it out to be. I smoke weed, and maybe will have a drink from time to time... but I sure don't want my "kids" to do it...

As mentioned above.. its true, weed is harmless... but its what goes with it that isn't. See, when kids are kids, they have a very important job to do.. that’s to lay the foundation for their future. I've seen a lot of kids get into partying (a lot). hey, its fun, that’s why its called partying. Some kids get so wrapped up in partying, that they let their grades slip, school goes downhill, etc... Now, high school, and the teen years are short.. but the rest of their lives are long... I don't want them working hard labor, or in a factory... (yea, I know what that must make me sound like... but show me a factory working that wakes up in the morning and can't wait to get to work... a few years of fun isn't worth a lifetime of hard crappy work...

Now, on the other hand, when my kids get to med school, and on weekends light up or have a few to unwinde... hey, I'm good with that... I might even join them.. but until then I would like them to work on an awesome future.. afterwords, they have thier whole lives to have a great time....

    peace

Word. I work in a factory right now, and it blows. Not for bad grades, though. (DONT MAJOR IN PHILOSOPHY!)

I have to reiterate the point made earlier: psychedelics used during the brain's formative years (under 18, for some people, under 25) is russian roulette. Its really all about genetics...when I was 17, my friend I tripped with all the time developed schizophrenia. He had a recessive gene, and a psychedelic experience triggered it, they think. Now he's dead (suicide). BUT ANYWAYS....

That doesn't happen all the time. The point is, it could. And developing some lifelong emotional/mental illness because you want to do some crazy drug that you may/most likely won't enjoy is not really worth it.

Again, brain still forming, don't do saliva.

And while I'm dishing out advice I wish I'd have taken, don't ever try to drink a liter of wild turkey 101 in one night. You'll never drink whisky again.

Please, do not judge actual potence of drugs according to such ridiculous criterion as whether they're legal or not. Once again = legal doesnt automaticly mean safe and ilegal doesnt mean dangerous. As far as I'm concerned I wouldn't recommend you any psychedelic substance at the age of fourteen coz as some folks have already pointed out - your brain is still being in phase of development.

Another thing is that salvia is extremely potent entheogen with rapid overwhelming onset. I'm pretty sure that doing acid or shrooms in so called recreational doses is far safer than doin salvia because it ain't possible to use salvia as recreational tool. It is divine herb and deserves to be treated with large amount of respect. I've done it several times and nothing good have ever come outta it.

Therefore I suppose my young mind ain't ready for it yet.

hey guys, im sorry for the mistake i meant to say that i will be 15 soon... so by doing salvia i could trigger schizo? i have one question about that, will salvia trigger schizo if its going to happen anyways meaning later on or will it trigger it anyways, i mean if in your genes your not meant to have schitzo and you never will, could salvia still make it happen? i sometime here my name being called and noones there or some sounds sound like my name... is that bad or something?

Hey Cabbagehead... I just wanted to say it one more time... please don't get me wrong.. I don't think anything different of a person wheather they workin in a factory or a law firm... both places, you get good people, and bad people... I was just speaking from the perspective that its very hard work... (mentally if not physically)... there is no shame in it... but I do wish you and the people you work with had it easier... I say this cause my dad did it.. and other people I care for were there... and I heard all the stories... my comment was I would like to keep my kids out of there...

Cabbagehead... would you ever consider teaching? I know up here, lots of the colleges take instructors for various programs without PHD's... (or even a masters degree is optional to teach at a college)...

no. and no, no, no. In my research post-friend-suicide, I learned that schizophrenia is a genetic thing. There are triggers, mostly mental, emotional and stress related. But there is a good chance that even if you are genetically predisposed toward the disease (and there is no way of knowing if you are), you will never develop it. On the other hand, I could develop it tommorow, even though I've done a ton of psychedelics and never shown any symptoms of it (and even though there is not, to the best of my family's knowledge, a family history of it). Its just an iffy thing. If you are predisposed to it, and you do these kinds of drugs early in life, then your chances of developing schiz. or something just as bad are drastically improved (in a very bad way). Most people who have schizophrenia develop it between the ages of 15 and 30. Who knows why it takes so long to develop, who knows what really triggers it in one brother and not the other. Its a big crap shoot.

I say this not to freak you out and stuff. But you should know. I wish I would have. I prolly still would have done it, though.

I just think that if you are thinking about psychedelics, you should start smaller. As everyone else has commented, ad nauseum, SALVIA IS A MORE INTENSE EXPERIENCE THAN ANYONE IS PREPARED FOR, PERIOD. I did acid more than 200 times. Hard acid. And this shit knocked me for such a loop my head is still buzzing 5 days later, in a kinda bad way.

Just be prepared and make an informed decision (assumming you can do that right now...).

Funny, I am working on my law school app right now (in a dif window).
    :)

And I did the grad school thing. It wasn't for me, even though I was certain it was. No biggie. I love my job, I drive in the mountains and get home by 3 every day. Health insurance and bills are taken care of. Life is fine, and i am sitting at a 4 star restaurant drinking a Bass as I type. Don't feel bad for me.
    ;)

You could have some repressed desire or memory that the experience unearths and forces you to examine, over and over and over again. You just never know how those kinds of things will effect you. I'd just advise you to not take anything you experience on drugs too seriously. It all goes away after a day or two, and then you can figure out how to integrate what you experienced into your daily life. It doesn't have to be a mystical experience where you touch God. Generally, I'd say that is a bad way to integrate it into your daily life. You've dealt with life for this long without using crazy mystical concepts, and 20 minutes shouldn't (and can't really without you wanting it to) change that. Just remember that and you'll be fine.
