Well, I've got a lot of questions, but I'll start with a health related one. I'm wonder what the long term effects of pot are. I've heard heavy users can suffer lung problem and even lung cancer. Also, they say pot messes with your memory, but also that there are no long-term studies that show pot does anything harmful. The way I make sense out of this is to say that the memory problems show up when you're high only. Is this correct? I've been smoking about once a week for the past seven years, and I haven't noticed anything serious but it's really hard to tell from my stand point. None of my friends or family have mentioned anything so I'm guessing there haven't been any noticeable effects. I've done a lot of research and most of what's out there is inconclusive. Can anyone speak from personal experience - either about themselves or people they've known?
Pot does not cause lung cancer, and in fact they think it might do the opposite. However though I think we can all agree inhaling smoke is not good for the lungs in general. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,196678,00.html http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa003&articleID=0002491F-755F-1473-B55F83414B7F0000&ref=rss
agreed eatting it is the preffered method i've smoked fairly regularly for many many years & notice no real long term effects..but the same cannot be said for any other drugs i've tried in the past like i said in another thread, i regret every other drug ive tried including alcahol (well i dot exactly regret tripping, only tripping too much..i think it did help shape me into who i am today) but i have never & will never regret smoking herb
Studies have shown that THC actually helps in the destruction of cancer cells. Some studies have even shown that people who smoke cigarettes AND weed have a smaller chance of getting cancer than people who smoke only cigarettes. I heard on CNN the other day that THC may also help prevent alzheimers disease. It's funny how weed has so much potential to improve people's health and quality of life, yet it is still illegal.
Yeah there's studies but I can't be arsed to find them... yes it's true it helps destroy cancer cells.
heavy and long term marijuana smoking could lead to different respiratory diseases... i mean.. you are putting smoke in your lungs.. its not healthy.. if you want a 100% healthy way of consuming marijuana.. eat it
I've never tried eating it. How long does it take to notice the effect? Is the high any different than smoking?
I've never ate it myself, but basically it can take longer to come on, up to an hour or so, the high lasts much longer, and from what people have said it's more of a body high, and a bit more trippy.
There is an article about it on the cnn website. I am not gonna take the time to find it, but it's there. Someone posted it in the medical marijuana forum, if you want to look for it.
I didn't find the cnn article, but I found this http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/05/060526083353.htm It's not talking about the study showing that it helps to destroy cancer cells, but it's explaining that it does not lead to cancer in any way, shape, or form, and it compares long-term weed smoking to long-term tobacco smoking and the effects they have on the lungs.
I thing I have heard is that resin will build up in your brain, and after someone dies thats been smoking pot for a long time you can scrape it out and smoke it.
That's neat. Not only does it prevent lung cancer, the articles says, but head and neck cancer too - sounds like it helps prevent cancer in general. Still, I'm always warry about what I read, but in my search for scientific studies on the adverse effects of pot, I've rare come across any. I've come across way more showing the neutral, or even beneficial, effects of pot... but like I said, I can never feel absolutely certain about how reliable these sources are. Oh well, I'm not a heavy smoker anyway, so I can't be doing myself too much harm. Another question about eating marijuana: how intense is the high? I mean, I've smoked enough over the years to learn this - if you want an intense high, smoke through a pipe with a clean filter and hold it in as long as possible. Grounding it up as much as possible also helps. Could eating it get me just as high as these techniques?
I am sure it's true of the lungs. I am gonna leave my lungs to my fiance(my wife by then) in my will, so she can scrape them and smoke with me a few more times after I die.
i only smoke like once a week and i honestly have pretty bad short term memory problems, but at the same time im just as smart as i ever was and i can learn just as well. so i havent toked in 2 like weeks and i notice small improvements in my short term memory, meaning smoking probably causes no permanent impairment. and yea, it def wont give you cancer.
