recently ive felt a bit fed up with everything western culture. television, nightclubs, the phony way we interact with each other, the lack of any real cultural identity, everyone lets their spiritual and intellectual riches be drained away from them through mass-entertainments like video games and the television.

i mean im not saying any of those things are bad, but its all things in moderation, and it seems like more and more people live their life to watch their televisions or any other form of simple mindless entertainment with often very little other substance. noone really reads books much, noone prays, we all have these modern conveniences that to me seem unneccessary and take away from the reality of LIFE. is that we've left behind? life? there's no life anymore.

or am i just crazy. cos im worried im just becoming crazy. is noone else feeling this way?

I feel fine. I like new stuff. Look back to the 60s we had none of these things. That is way we were always marching around and trying to change things. We had nothing. I like it better now. Shallow is good. Just cheer up. Just think if we had no computers you could not ask these things and I could not tell you shallow is good.
    Peace

    Yes.

    I'd rather live tribal.

I want a cataclysmic conflict to exterminate most of the worlds population and shatter modern society, crippling it and bringing all of human civilisation to its knees.

I like TV, internet, films, computer games, iPods and all that. But I would give all of them up to live a simple life somewhere, free from capitalist ideals, noise pollution. In my utopian world there would be organic beer, apples, pipe weed and beautiful women. I'd earn my right to my share of the fruits of life by working a hard 3 days a week on the farm, and I would enjoy them all the more for that.

I like change, so I wouldn't mind giving up all modern technology and entertainment for a while.

If you only work on your farm 3 days a week. You will have a piss poor farm. Farming is hard work. I like farmers to do it. That way I can go to Giant Eagle and buy these things. Next you will have me killin cows so I can eat them. Geeez I don't like killin cows.

    Peace

Balls. If everyone mucked in, say in a utopian society there were no lazy coffee drinking IT heads sitting on their arses all day in front of a computer, then there would be enough man power, and woman power if they also wished to help, to get the job done.

I can relate to you. The western world (especially the US) has no cultural identity and it's extremely depressing.

Just don't let it get to your head. Make some money and get out of here, but hell.... you're 18... try to enjoy the comforts that civilization produces for now.

Yes but that means hard work. I don't like hard work. Who would take care of me. Is there a place for me in this Utopian society ? We used to think that way until we grew up and looked at the fact that we would have to work hard to ahieve this utopian society. Hippies don't like hard work so we all went to Giant Eagle and bought food because we were hungry. Long live the hippies. We are lazy.

    Peace

Just stop it right now. You will give us a bad name. People will think that we should all work hard.

    Peace

And then they, in various spots throughout the country, gather at "music" festivals to talk about trying to change the world.

    This isn't the 60's.

    That shit doesn't work anymore.

The man is hip to your tatics.

But let's look at these "festivals" and the harm they produce:

The first Bonnaroo, in 2002, tied up traffic for two days.

That's a lot of unnecessary greenhouse gases, eh?

Another report from 2002: the traffic jam to get into was massive. Anywhere from 15 to 30 miles long. It took one guy 10 hours to go 30 miles to the exit. If you have 90,000 people attending, figuring 6 people per vehicle, that's Multiply that by 15,000 cars ... that's 150,000 hours of cars basically idling ... that's 17 days - TWO AND A HALF WEEKS - worth hippies in cars sitting there burning up fossil fuels creating greenhouse gases that deplete oxygen and produce carbon monoxide.

So they can gather and talk about how bad we're polluting the earth.

And you can bet they were smoking weed too.

    And smelling.

    Because hippies smell!

What ? I don't smell. I don't work hard how can I smell bad. We need cars too. How will I get to Giant Eagle without my car. Traffic is good. It gives us somthing to hate. We need hate and shopping.

    Peace

I feel the same way as the original poster.

Most people these days measure their happiness with how big their car is and how much money they have in the bank. It's sad, but it by no way means that we have to do that as well.

I felt the same way at your age.

But I don't mean to be condescending so I'll let you pursue your own developmental path.
